Build Reports / warhead vibe
June 07, 2011, 04:44:00 AM

I got this pretty much finished a couple weeks ago. Still gotta add some graphics when I finish the artwork. I used a 2" tall bb enclosure and once the pots and switches were installed, I fit a piece of 1" foam from a shock mount rack case on the floor of the encloser to space the pcb above the controls Then I fitted a 1/4" thick piece of foam inside the cover so when it's all closed up the pcb is completely held firm and cushioned. I got a super great deal on a few dozen aluminum hi-fi knobs from the 70's so I used them here. They are very heavy and solid. the huge one up front is of coarse the speed control.

This vibe is tricky to dial in but once it's set up it sounds really sweet. I change the intensity pot to a b100k for a deeper throb. This vibe sounds great with the intensity dialed back a bit as well. It's great for "Breathe" and similar gilmour flangey sounds.

I got an order of nos ge diodes in metal can packages. they look like ge transistors with only 2 gold legs. has anybody got any experience with them? they look cool as hell.

Build Reports / FTW
May 10, 2011, 03:24:57 AM
I've been building for a few years now. finally decided to post a build report. here is a wolfshirt. built strait up with no mods. put the octave on a footswitch and used the 2n3565 trannies. sounds just like the fulltone ultimate octave fuzz I used to have. stole the "fuzz the world" graphic online and decal'd the top and all four sides. styled the graphics similar to the custom vans of the 70's

Requests / transistor specs
April 17, 2011, 01:39:07 AM
I'd really like to see some info about what gain ranges I should be looking for on the transistors in the fuzz projects . I know trannies in different positions usually should be higher or lower than the others. but finding that info sometimes can be difficult. if that could be included in the build docs,.I'm sure it could make it that much easier to dial in a lot of these circuits. or if some of the builders know, Including the specs in build reports would be great.

Tech Help - Projects Page / sunking issues
December 20, 2010, 06:01:45 AM
just finishing up my second sunking build, my first was a success but a little sloppy. this one was much neater with better components. but I'm having some issues. the only part sub was a 470n cap in the tone section instead of 390n. when testing I got only a faint sound. discoverd a reversed electro. fixed that and tested again and it sounded glorious until...I maxed the gain control and when hitting loud chords the circuit would oscilate with a rapid thumping beat until I backed off the gain, it would then stopped oscilating and soung great again. checked my voltages and all but a couple were in range most were .10-.15 high. I tracked down a solder bridge between pins 3 and 4 of the charge pump. fixed that and got only a faint thin tone when tested. I am at a loss. checked the voltages again and all but a few where in range. here are the voltages I got:
IC1        IC2       IC3
4.59      4.63      9.35
4.59      4.59      4.69
1.26      4.54      0.00
0.00     -8.84     -4.40
4.48      4.62     -8.88
4.60      4.68      4.86
4.61      4.65      4.15
9.35      16.98    9.34

I am still fairly new at this and not the best at debugging (been building about a year.) If you could take a look at these readings and maybe point in the right direction. it would be a real help. I you need some photo's I can take some In the morning. it's late now and the lighting in my house isn't bright enough for good pics.   thanks so much.
