played around on this today for quite sometime. goddamn this thing has some serious output! definitely no signal loss when switching the octave in or out.I preferto use this one in the lower end of the gain range. the fuzz by itself is really great.

Ive got a couple of builds with Warmoth necks. They're great quality. The compound radius takes a while to get used to. I had maple fretboards on both of them and sanding between frets is a nightmare, also removing the lacquer from the frets can be a PITA. I got stainless steel frets for both of them and there is no sign of wear at all (on vintage/thin frets). I did a lot of work on my buddies strat a few days ago and he had a mighty mite neck which was surprisingly level (more so than both of my Warmoth necks), he said he bought it for $90! I have to get me one of those.

Laquer on the frets???

You mean, they install the frets first...and then spray some paint on the neck???????
That´s quite shitty for the money they take, isn´t it?
I hope, I got it right  ;)

I didn't order it finished. I am pretty sure if they finish it for you there wont be an issue just because they can finish it before they install the frets.

I'm afraid they do come with the frets laquered. that is just how it's done. you have to spray them after fretting or you'll fill the fret slots with laquer. and you'l crack the finish when you press the frets in.

Ok, you´d crack the finish....but, to be honest: they charge about 270 bucks for a laquered, simple vintage strat neck (maple / rswd), add some shipping charges and you´re way up to 300. I´d really expect, to get a straight, playable neck. And not some kind of:"...well, almost done, but you´ll have to clean the laquer from the frets (we´d do it...for some extra fees...). They got some nice bodies an necks, but after that, I´d never buy a neck at Warmoth...seriously!

Don´t take me for granted, but at a certain amount of money (at Warmoth or any other seller), i´d really expect, to get some "clean" stuff, instead of "kind-of-playable".
Sorry, my opinion.

I really thought, you´re kiddin me.... ;)

"almost done" is quite right. warmoth states that all necks require finall fret leveling and polishing as, which is where the laquer would come off, quite easily I might add.

I didn't mean a drop in level, I meant a cutout of signal. I've heard that the fuzz just stops for a moment when the octave is engaged. Don't know if it's true, was just asking.

Jacob

never notice this, sounds like an issue with the switch that was used. I've had a few cheap switches that cut off the signal until your foot is taken off the switch. in fact I have to swap out the switch in my dls and firebomb builds for this reason. was this a single report or several instances? I'll test it out today and report back.

no they're not gold switches. but it would be bad ass if they where.

and their is absolutley no drop in level when the octave is engaged on this build. octave up is something I use sparingly so the footswitchable octave makes sense for me. I did the same thing on several different octavia type builds. a pre gain control also helps to mello out the sound if they're a little screetchy

I've been building for a few years now. finally decided to post a build report. here is a wolfshirt. built strait up with no mods. put the octave on a footswitch and used the 2n3565 trannies. sounds just like the fulltone ultimate octave fuzz I used to have. stole the "fuzz the world" graphic online and decal'd the top and all four sides. styled the graphics similar to the custom vans of the 70's

you do not need a regulator for 18v oeration. and you can use any 2 contact jack you like. but the standard power jack will correspond with most available power cables. you could also use 1/8 phono jacks like the old dod pedals. IIRC the furman powered pedalboard cables use those.

i had one of these. it was an awesome guitar. I traded it of for a mesa nomad 100. I think I got the beter end of the deal. but I wouldn't mind replacing it with anther tele.

Quote from: petesz on May 04, 2011, 12:19:36 AM
I really like my Tele, but im unsure if im completely happy with the noiseless pu's. Plays very nicely though.
Its an American Deluxe exactly like:

alder body with maple neck in that colour with white binding.

Although at the moment im gasing for a really nice sunburst or goldtop Gibson LP for some humbucker action.

Nice. I'm a strat man who is also partial to prs guitars. I've had several of each over the years. my faves are a '78 maple necked strat and a prs singlecut. I've got a stable of Ibanez jems as well.

almost forgot this one:

this was total one off custom built to my specs by Bill Jancar at the first act custom shop in Boston,MA it's got and alder body, fender 251/2"scale set neck w- 24 jumbo frets, seymour duncan custom shop p-90's, surf green nitro and custom "good faith" inlay. good faith was the name a tattoo shop I owned in boston at the time it was built. that guitar is amazing. It doesnt get played nearly enough

April 29, 2011, 03:13:48 PM
after soldering tattoo needles for the better part of 20 years I can honestly say, if you plan on doing diy electronics long term. having a fume extracter is an absolute necessity.I never fire up my soldering staion without turning it on. I have a colleage in the tattoo buisness who suffered from throat cancer. he was a non smoker, but was a veteran of the tattoo business who soldered every day, like myself, for a couple decades. his doctor determined that his cancer was caused by long term occupational over exposure to vaporised flux in the solder. now tattooers use silver bearing solder whitch is different than the stuff we use to make pedals. but I can only assume that this is nasty s@#t  judging by the tase of a big cloud of solder vapor. I never would want, or want for any of you guys to suffer the way my friend had. chemo, removal of his voicebox, and ultimately a slow painful premature death. so what ever it takes. get it done and buy one for yourself. the cost is insignificant compared to you health. nuff said.

I tend to order a bunch of projects at a time. and more often than not I have received extra bonus boards. I ALWAYS make sure to imediately send a thank you e-mail to him. brian works his ass off for all of us. and I would never expect anything for free. but I certainly appreciate the exrtas he has provided. I personally would forgo any freebies in lieu of brians sanity.

I saw dweezil and the band on the first run of zappa plays zappa. both terry bozzio, steve vai, and napoleon murphy brock were with him. that was the most amazing musical experience of my life. I took my wife who never heard zappa in her life. her mind was totally blown.
