Build Reports / Professor Tweed

Here is a standard professor tweed, sounds great with my Strat, I went with a Fender tweed motif obviously. I think it turned out well.

Open Discussion / What's a good combo amp
February 23, 2014, 04:59:34 PM
So I was looking at a Bugera V5 but I'm finding mixed reviews. My brother has a 22 that I like but I don't want to spend that much. What's a good amp for 199 or less? Tubed is good and I really like the fender sound, been listening to blues lately.

Build Reports / A bazz fuss and a ginger

These are tight little builds, the fuzz is simple and clean and the O.D. Is not terrible distorted and sounds great with a Jazz Bass

Sounds ok, I'm gonna try different inductors. There is a Dunlop bass wah inductor in there now. I really like the boost option.

Changed the inductor to a terrible toroid I got from Joe Gagan (3 pack of inductors for 20.00), sounds wah more better, keep in mind I'm a bassist.

This is a rehouse of sorts, it housed the causality that never really sounded right, so tonight I pulled it out and put the Tap Tempo Modulation and D'Lay in here, couldn't let the enclosure go by the wayside. Sounds really clean in contrast to the way it looks, it is literally stuffed in this enclosure completely. The wires started out looking neat and it kind of went south from there. But it works well.

February 08, 2014, 06:56:05 PM
So here is a MoWah i built today. Didn't take very long at all. The oustide isn't much to look at but the inside is rather clean i think. Works great too. Up next is a weener wah.

Where has this been hiding, can we do this or is it digital?

How about a Doppelganger 1.4 from Alanp, zero ticking, 6 knobs 4 switches and alot of double LFO. Works great and it's big. This is with my MIM Strat, never did hook the bass up to it. I will probably never use it, it was built for the challenge, and I think it sounds great. The enclosure was etched by Phreek. I think he did a great job.

Got a New to me Mexican Strat. Traded the double take pedal to my guitar player for it so I can accurately play through my Game of Toanz! It's pretty cherry for sure.

Open Discussion / Bi Comp Question
January 26, 2014, 06:13:35 PM
I just found out a Bi-Comp was a thing and now I must build one because its there. Is there a layout somewhere OR is there a modified Ross with 3 knobs that I can pair beans orange squeezer with and put it into a 125b? Let's make this happen!  ;D

Build Reports / The Doubletake
January 25, 2014, 07:59:23 AM
Here is a fantastic sounding Bluesbreaker circuit. It sounds mean and has a little extra oomph. I built it for my guitar player and he chose the art, so do't judge me. Anyway, check it out.

Build Reports / Would you like to play a game???
January 22, 2014, 11:11:08 AM
Game of Toanz from our Canadian brethren. Got wicked mods on the hot side, stacked opamps and a 250kb pot on the gain!!! C7 is a 47n for extra oomph.

Have you built so many pedals you can't keep track of them. I have a buffered klone modded for bass and I can't find it anywhere.

This is my very first successful 1590A pedal build. The Afterlife compressor is a very quiet squishy pedal. It's very impressive. I built it in what was originally going to be a headphone amp, but that didn't work out. For me, compressors are an a;ways on effect, so that's why I decided to build it sans the stomp. I've always wanted to build one without it and voila!!

Build Reports / Drop in Rat replacement
January 17, 2014, 05:13:47 PM
Awesome drop in Effdub Audio Drop in Rat replacement board with the 3 dip switches. For those of you who aren't familiar, 3 of the DIP switch enables/disables the so-called "Ruetz mod". When engaged, the result is a reduction in gain at higher frequencies and an overall "softer" sort of clipping. This mod makes the lower-gain settings of the Rat more overdrive-like and less fuzzy/woolly. Note: For this mod, putting the DIP switch in the in ON position is the stock circuit, and having it off is the Ruetz Mod.
Clipping Diode Mod
1 and 2 on the DIP switch toggles which clipping diodes are active. The LEDs are always connected to the circuit, so with both DIP toggles in the off position, the LEDs are active (Turbo Rat* tone). Putting #2 to the ON position engages the silicon diodes (The Rat*, Rat2* tones), and moving #3 to the ON position engages the Germanium diodes (You Dirty Rat* tone). If both 1 and 2 are ON, Germanium is selected, as it has the lowest forward voltage drop and conducts before the other sets of diodes can turn on.

So she likes to build pedals with me, so here's what I did with her. Complicated bracelet made from small rubber bands. Yeah!
