Man, what an awesome effect. 89.00 isn't bad for the DIY version. I might need to have one.

Like benny said the proper VGS of Q2 is critical to make the effect work. But, I don't think using one out of spec for the build will throw off voltages for the 2n3904 at all.
Worse comes to worst, I might be able to dig up a proper spec'd 2n5457 for you if your new batch doesn't pan out.
I'm doing a bunch of the VFE builds all at once right now too, including the BB and tractor beam. I'm gonna try to solve some of these jfet woes by getting 100 J113's from Mouser for $13

Quote from: benny_profane on June 09, 2020, 04:10:46 PMYes I do. I ordered some, but they were all crap. I have a bounced off matches ones, but they're around 3.0. What are sbe devices?
Do you have access to a reliable instrument to measure JFET characteristics or a test circuit? I had no issue finding an in-spec 2n5457 from the SBE devices. I also used the trim pot rather than the fixed resistor.

Quote from: CodeMonk on June 09, 2020, 06:52:08 AMYou're not even kidding! I bought some carbide tips at Harbor Freight just to see if I was gonna do more. Thanks for the link, I'm gonna do some more.
Better than my first etch.
The etching part is easy.
Drilling the holes, HUGE PITA.
I get my drill bits here https://drillcity.stores.yahoo.net/newtuncardri.html
The Carbide bits last a long time, fiberglass tends to dull other drill bit materials rather quickly.
BUT, Carbide bits are fragile. Really easy to break, until you get the hang of it.
And they cost about $2 US each.

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone could kindly just point me in the right direction. I have a fritter build all but ready to box up but I can't seem to find a C50k pot anywhere on the planet besides Smallbear who obviously aren't trading at the minute. Mouser and Tayda both only seem to stock the 16mm version and I did happen to find some from Banzai music only to have them get lost in the mail! Any leads would be much appreciated. A follow up question though - would it be a terrible idea to wire the 1 pin to the 3 hole and the 3 pin to the 1 hole on an A50k pot? Does that have the same effect or am I hugely oversimplifying?
Thanks!
