I got lucky yesterday while doing my normal shopping for the week. They had a few cases that were being put on the shelves so I was able to get a pack each of booty wipes and paper towels. I went to our local Chinese food joint for a carry out order later and was joking with the owner about how crazy people are acting right now. She told me that someone had stolen the TP from their bathroom in the restaurant earlier in the day!  :o
I joked about that at work yesterday. Girl had a roll on her desk.

Nothing before the comps in the chain.
Have you used a spare LED to make sure that both the vactrol is the right way round despite the dot? I've seen it wrong before. What are you using in Q1?
Sounds like it's time for an audio probe to see where it is being introduced.

I used the spare LED before I installed the vactrols.
What about after you installed it, if you touch the legs of the LED to the legs of the vactrol, does it light up??  What are you using in Q1?

That's a good idea, I'll give it a shot!
I just had that same problem last week.

On that pedal, the level sets the pregain. If I'm reading it right, it was moved from inside, which means at the right setting, it should remove the distortion. Lots of opticomps I've seen just leave it internal because you should be able to set it and forget it.

Open Discussion / But why toilet paper and not food?
March 14, 2020, 01:56:02 PM
Does anyone have a real explanation why toilet paper is being stock piled but there is still plenty of food to be had? I just don't understand the phenomenon.

Hey, there is a new positive side. If we are all "working" at home then we can bullshit all day and build pedals, right?

Maybe we need a COVID-19 group build thread. For funsies.
Oh yeah, I'm totally ready for that. Other than building supplies, I haven't bought anything in the last 3 weeks.

I'm getting increasingly annoyed by a guy at work, who honestly does not seem to understand how the stock market works, and that your "money" in the stock market, is tied to the value of the shares you own. If the shares you own go down in value, you have less "money", and if they go up, so does your "money". I'm using quote marks because it is not actual, hard, spendable money until you sell those shares, at which point the money is tied to a set price at one point in time.

If I had spare money, I'd be buying shares in all the long term companies I can that have been dropping. Every single freakin' time an emergency happens, people sellsellsell, and what do you know, after things recover, the share prices go back up... weird, it's like stock prices fluctuate, who knew?
I know, these people are making my "money" go down. We just have to wait it out.

My daughters school canceled school next week and bumped up spring break to the week after, so Chattanooga is out of school for at least 2 weeks, maybe longer.

Open Discussion / Finally, a new soldering iron
March 12, 2020, 12:41:16 AM
I figured it was time to get a new soldering station. The current one was just until I decided if I wanted to keep building....that was like 6 or 8 years ago. Picked up a Hakko fx888D; wow, what a difference. I'm digging it so far, soldering is a lot quicker and smoother; I gotta get a smaller chisel tip for it, the one that came with it is too fat for my liking. So that happened.

the illness isnt that bad, the havoc on the economy is what I am worried about.

The media needs to start reporting that the illness is mild for most people. Stop scaring the friggin world from leaving their house.
So true.
