Guitar center had these hangers on sale for 5.00. I went to the hardware store and got a board, some screws and some stain. Sanded the corners smooth, watched a video on how to find wall studs and after three days (too much stain, took forever to dry) this was the result. The stain matches my desk to the immediate right to put it in to perspective.

There's a thread around here addressing just this issue. A little search voodoo should do the trick.

I don't think there is a fabbed PCB out there without the depth mod, however it would be pretty easy to mod any available PCB to use the switch instead of the pot. Here is the breakdown:

Parts:
1 - spst switch (spdt will also work)
1 - 4k7
1 - 2k7

A. Populate the 4k7 across depth pot pads 3 and 2 on the PCB (don't solder pad 2 yet)
B. Connect one side of the 2k7 to pad 2 and the other side to one of the spst lugs (now you can solder pad 2)
C. Connect other spst lug to pad 1
I think Barry has one, the mini me maybe?

Yep. I use spdt instead of spst because they serve the same purpose, but I usually keep some in hand too.

That's awesome, nice job. It never gets easier, you do learn a few tricks along the way.

Replaced Q1 and after some more poking around with an audio probe realized there was a place where the trace was cut within the board. Wired point-to-point across there, and now it works fine! Thanks for the help, glad to finally get this build off the ground.
Awesome, nice job!

You've plugged your guitar directly in to your amp just to check if the noise is gone?

So I built the CTO v2 for a friend here http://www.guitarpcb.com/apps/webstore/products/show/3436319

And it sounds great..... unless the gain is anywhere except fully clockwise. I get a pretty nice fuzz tone with the gain on 10 but as soon as you move it to 9.8 the circuit completely cleans up and the gain knob doesn't really do too much from 0-9.9. I checked the sweep on the gain knob with an ohmeter and the resistance changes linearly so I'm not sure why I get this very nonlinear response.

Thoughts?
So, I just watched Barry's video on the guitar pcb site. The gain is turned all the way up to get that crunchy sound on his video. The Colorsound is a boost / overdrive, I believe what you're hearing is normal.

What does it do or not do exactly?

Do you have any pictures we could look at? Also, look at videos on you tube to make sure something is wrong. It is a boost overdriver.
