Tech Help - Projects Page / Nameless -- Action Pot
April 30, 2016, 06:52:15 PM
So I fired up this bad boy, and set the trims in accordance with the instructions. So far, so good (I think). But when playing through the circuit, the input signal seems to not trigger the time-based effects, and the action pot, which sets the level of the delay signal, doesn't do anything. I get oscillation from the reaction pot in the expected ranges.

All other controls function as one would expect, and the Space yields great sounding tremolo. I tried swapping out the 3102 and 3207 chips with no difference.

I'm looking at the components around the Action pot: R32–39; C15–19; Q6–8. But since there isn't a photo of the bare board in the build doc, I can't see the part numbers under the populated components. Can anyone post a pic of either the bare board so I can check my values or of a completed board to compare?

Thanks!

So I built this up today and get boost, running at 9v, trim set to 4.5. It certainly boosts, but the switches don't do anything. I disconnected the switches so I could swap leads in case my assumption about which pole to connect to the square pad was incorrect. Hopefully I'm just being a dope!

General Questions / Stutr Hiss
April 05, 2016, 06:57:16 PM
I just built the Stutr from the G boards projects and it works as expected except for a fairly pronounced hiss/white noise that follows the volume peaks. Anyone else experience this?
#24
I built the Ankh, but so far, it's not coming to life.  :)  What I get is fairly quiet, very gated distortion, and the gain pot kills the volume at all points below about 80% of max.

I checked values and orientation, and reflowed everything. The gain pot resistance measures low within the circuit so I may swap it out. I know that since the project is unverified, there are no existing voltage readings, but can anyone who has built a Rah or Prince Albert post voltages for the BS170s?

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / 424—Verified
February 26, 2016, 09:29:04 PM
Evidently Bean is good at making layouts that work cuz the 424 is no exception—it works. Lots of treble as is, I may tweak a few resistors to tame the top end. IC clipping at it's finest!

Have the day off from work and the weather blows so I'm just a sittin' and a verifyin'.

It really sounds like doom! I'm tempted to try other values for the heavy cap (47u)—pretty subtle as is. Also tempted to try different values for C9, 10 and 11 which are switchable via the shift switch—two of the positions are very similar.

Overall, there's a ton of gainy doom, and the tone controls have a lot of variation. Definitely worth building!

Tech Help - Etcher's Paradise / Leviathan--Verified
February 26, 2016, 02:07:17 AM
Just test fired the Leviathan and it's verified! Only part sub was R22 (2k4 instead of 2k2). The tone control is a nice feature and really changes the repeats from bright to dark. I haven't hook up a mod board for it yet, but I should get around to it tomorrow.

Special kudos to Keefe (Haberdasher) for etching me this and other great boards—they are immaculate!

General Questions / Lazerwolf Zener Question
March 28, 2015, 05:29:52 PM
Any problem with subbing a 5.6v Zener for the 5.1v called for in the build doc? It's in the lower left corner of the schem. Not sure what that part of the circuit is...

General Questions / Danger Zone Question
February 20, 2015, 04:22:38 PM
Hi guys, I almost done popping the DZ and I want to leave off the Tone Bypass switch. I think I know which way to jumper but just want to make sure ;)

Seen from the top (switch/knob side) and seeing "right side is tone control active" in the build doc, I would jumper the left and center poles:

o-o o
o-o o

Am I reading this correctly? Thanks!

Build Reports / Doppleganger
February 02, 2015, 05:29:41 PM
Built a stripped-down Doppleganger—really wishing I had put the dual lfos on a stomp. Hmmm, might have to build another one with all the bells and whistles. This thing sounds killer! Between this and Drolo's Liquid Mercury (still to box), phasing might be covered—until the next one comes out  :)  No noise problems even without the shielded cable, and knobs and labels to follow. Thanks to Lace and Alan for making this available!

General Questions / Dirtbaby 2n7 caps
January 18, 2015, 08:28:57 PM
Hi folks—since 2n7 isn't the most common value, could I get away with 3n3 or 2n2? It's the only thing standing in the way of more delay! Thanks!

General Questions / Doppleganger Missing Pad
January 08, 2015, 09:22:15 PM
Had popped this a while back and was about to hook up switches when I realized the following:

From the schem it looks like it just goes to ground, so I imagine I could connect to another ground source on the board, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Build Reports / A Pair of Drolos
January 04, 2015, 02:53:07 AM
Had the day off yesterday, and wasted no time in popping the Giant Hogweed, and boxing it up today. Not sure that I have a serious use for this pedal (except sonically inappropriate jazz and country solos), but it's really fun.  I love the the Stabilization control, and also the fact that it says "Stab" on the board (although it acts more like it's taking a blunt instrument to the fuzz). Sweet having the octaves on a switch too. Fun to put together and the perfect way to utilize my last LM308. I'll call it "Invasive Species".

Invasive Species' older brother is the Twin Peaks Tremolo. I should have done a build report a long time ago, but I couldn't take it off the board. There are so many sounds in this thing, still learning what all the possibilities are. The box is anodized yellow from PPP—looks more like olive green to me but I like it nonetheless. A bit of a squeeze to get in the box yet ultimately doable.

Kudos to David for making these available. Looking forward to the phaser!

Tech Help - Projects Page / Zero Point SDX Issue
December 14, 2014, 06:48:14 PM
Hi Guys,
I'm rehousing my "working" (at least it used to work) ZPSDX and I'm perplexed by the fact that when I test the circuit on my tester it works great, but when I put the board in the box, the delay stops working immediately. I still get signal, and the modulation light flashes. When I remove it from the box, the delay still doesn't work. If I wait 24 hours and test it, it works. I'm confused!

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

General Questions / Doppelgänger--rock before box
November 08, 2014, 04:48:50 PM
Got my Dopp popped and I want to rock before box.
And so ends my all too brief rapping career!

Without hooking up all three stomps, is there a way to test the dual LFO and vibe/phase functions?

Thanks!

Build Reports / Lucky 13
November 05, 2014, 06:25:50 PM
I finally cleared my backlog of unboxed circuits and now I can't remember what half of them are (not really).  There are boards from Bean (4), 1776 (1), JMK (1), Grind (3), Jubal (2), RobA (1), Function FX (1). The 125 boxes are from PPP. Anyone care to take a guess what they are? I think a few will be obvious, others not so much... Guts will follow after a bit!

General Questions / Twin Peaks Trimmers
October 13, 2014, 03:40:25 PM
Does anyone know what type of trimmers to order for this? All of mine are too small, and my Mouser fu doesn't seem to be adequate (but I'll keep trying in the mean time).

Thanks!

I don't really build for anything other than my own use , but I don't have a lot of room to store 80+ pedals—and I can't seem to stop building. So I end up giving some away. And sometimes, I trade pedals for several pounds of meat:

A pal at work asked me about which compressor to buy, and I told him I'd just hook him up with one of the 7 or 8 comps I have on hand.  I gave him an Engineer's Thumb. Needless to say he was thrilled with it and in return surprised me with some pork shoulder straight from the smoker. Not a bad way to come into work after a long weekend!

And, I now have an excuse to build another ET!

Open Discussion / Why did I buy this?
August 28, 2014, 02:58:55 PM
I got this switch in my Mouser order yesterday and I can't for the life of me remember what build it is for. Anybody here know of a recent project that uses this, or should I just have it bronzed as a monument to my impending senility?

Open Discussion / Lovetone ? Flanger Question
July 16, 2014, 09:16:47 PM
For anyone here who has built or owns an original, do you use the Trig/Gate function a lot? I'm starting my build and am thinking of leaving it out. I realize it won't be an exact copy, but it might make life easier. On the fence about it.
