General Questions / Nautilus Question
May 23, 2013, 11:26:24 AM
Just boxed up a Nautilus and am really enjoying it! Not having owned anything like this before, I'm not sure if some of the sounds I get at certain settings are just part of the circuit (gating at extreme Gain and Sweep) or if there's an issue. There's so many usable sounds and everything seems to have the right effect when tweaked, I'm tempted to say it's cool, but still curious to know.  Thanks!

I'll chime in with kudos for Brooklyn, NY-based SB. Unlike others who experience long ship times, SB is local for me—and I usually can pick up two blocks from my place by 6pm same day.

It's practically the only consolation I get for paying absurdly high rent (like most NYers).

Hey, I thought I was the only Brooklynite here. Yeah, it is awesome to live so close - if I can't pick my order up, then I know it'll be in my mailbox the day after it ships.

It used to crack me up that the SB guys had to go two blocks past my building to send my order; which then went out to Long Island to a postal sorting facility; only to end up back in Brooklyn!

Open Discussion / Re: Vero sucks
March 22, 2013, 01:06:27 PM
Us non-etchers are truly spoiled by the number of high-quality fabbed boards!
Working on vero just requires extra care at the board prep and population stages of building. Numbering rows and columns helps, as does marking the board locations before making cuts and jumpers. It's like the old adage "measure twice, cut once".

Once I figured out that troubleshooting just involved rectifying (not that rectifying) the fact that I made a bad cut/jumper, put a part in the wrong hole (you have such a dirty mind, btw), used the wrong value, etc., it became easier to deal with.

I'm not an expert by any means, and have arrived at any useful practices by making plenty of mistakes (making 34 perfect cuts and realizing I had the strips oriented the wrong way!) But as a result I got to try some nice sounding circuits, including an echobase or two, some compressors, a trem lune and plenty of dirt!

And yes, some went in the box of failure—I learned a ton from those!

General Questions / Re: New DC Jacks :(

Mine were (accidentally) the 2.5mm version. Fortunately I got a new power supply unit that has a variety of plugs so I can use them now. They seem to fit snugly...

Sorry to dig up an old-ish thread, but I got some of these DC jacks and I want to make sure that I connect them properly as not to fry my freshly minted Collasallus. There is a longer terminal and a shorter terminal—I believe the longer term is + and shorter is ground. Can anyone confirm!

Thanks!

Open Discussion / Lowrider Rocks
January 29, 2013, 09:33:04 AM
Just boxed up the Lowrider and I have to say, it's actually much better than I expected. It tracks both the 8vb  and two 8vb  really well. I only find sustained notes to glitch a bit in the lowest four half steps of the guitar, much better than what some folks were saying. The 8va is a bit fuzzy and definitely most prominent higher on the neck, as advertized—it is what it is. Reminds me of analog synth sounds from early on in their development. Still very useful to me.

Major kudos on a great project!

Thanks!

If only I hadn't ordered a few other boards five minutes before the Zero Points rode into town...

Turns out I did indeed fry something; replaced all and now the sound of sweet sweet chorus fills my ears.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Pork Barrel ICs

Hi Folks,
Accidentally mis-wired the 9v and ground coming from the DC Jack to the board :(

Did I likely fry any of the ICs? I get sound but no chorus.

I'm in the process of looking for what else I may have screwed up.

Thanks much!
