On the single-sided pcb, there are pads and a R1 designation. These are NOT on the layout for the double-sided pcb, nor is it listed in the parts list. and as far as my wine-drinking eyes can see, it's not even in the schematic. on the SS (single-sided) board, it is connected to the INPUT A, along with the input cap. typo on the board layout? anyone built the SS version and figured this out?

To buy some vactrols, and find a quite large treasure chest of goodies.
This is the kind of place you could ranger around digging thru things for hours. He's boxes and boxes of stuff: carbon comp, 12  and 16 mm puts in all the flavors we use,  stomp switches, 2.50$ a pop, mini toggles galore..everything except germanium. But hey, I can find that on the bay.

And I can skateboard there. ;D

By the way, his website doesn't even hint at the amount of stuff he has.

And he'll do bulk discounts...group buy!

Open Discussion / Finally etched my own pcbs....

I had done a few years and years ago, some Craig Anderton projects, but that was before wide availability of laser printers (we had dot matrix back then).

Remarkably, all turned out perfect on the first try.

Normally I will continue to support the community by purchasing in-production boards.

But these were ready to go, so that's what I went with. Honestly, I didn't expect them to be useable on my first try....;D

so, jon....

before i rip the board out of the box (yes, yes i know....i boxed it before i rocked it. i usually have pretty good luck. not this time...) i reflowed all the solder joints, swapped out the clipping diodes to 1n34a's that i know are good, triple checked the values of all parts, swapped out Q1 with a silicone tranny of roughly equal gain (hfe min:45).

I'm getting these voltages off a battery that is ~9v even:

q1: emitter     - 340 mv
      base       - 642 mv
      collector  - 8.86 volts

i know that is totally wrong.

before i go any further, i will tell you that i am getting almost equal voltage readings on either side of the D1 diode (1n5818) : 9volts on the anode, 8.9 on the cathode.

something don't seem right there.

i'm thinking the diode could be bad?

thoughts?

Up late a few nights ago, got real happy with my tax return money.

Time to stock up on parts! Oh yea! No more waiting a week for a common part that I should have already had lying around.

So I grabbed a few BOM's and and checked my parts bins....wrote some stuff  down that I'm either low on, or out of, and decided to go with Tayda.

Got pretty far with the order, only to find that they didn't have a few things on the list.

Well, there's no way I'm gonna pay for shipping twice, so I went right over to mammoth.

Made sure I got everything on the list, and ordered.

Next night, after taking pain pills ( I've got some wrist problems....makes it hard to play guitar, among other things), I had a couple glass of wine.
Plop down in front of the computer, and the Tayda page is still open.

What? I forgot to put the order through? Damnit! Better finish this up and order now so I will have the parts.
Done.

Yesterday, all my stuff arrived.

Whoops. I now have more 2k trimmers than I'll probably ever need in two lifetimes. :P

I actually can't fit all this stuff in my parts bins. That's a first 8)

Live and learn. Let this be a lesson to the kids:

Never order (or build, for that matter) while intoxicated.

That is all. :D

General Questions / Vector graphic question
February 26, 2013, 11:13:50 PM
I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around vector graphics. Even the tutorials I've watched leave me slightly baffled.
After importing an image (let's say, a jpg), how do I start selecting different parts of it so that I can move them around,  or transform them? The whole "layers" and group thing...I can't seem to grasp it.
Any help from one of you wizards would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  Curt.

I can't for the life of me find any info on these that isn't in Russian. That wouldn't be a problem,  except that it's all images of datasheets, and therefore can't use Google translate. Any one have any experience with these?

Just built the quasar rc version. When switched on, it pops and the led gets very bright for an instant. I'm sure there is as pulldown resistor built in, but it seems to me that it's getting a voltage spike or something...... any one have any knowledge of a cure? I see someone else posted a report of switch pop, also, but no answers.

Thanks guys.

These look pretty darn cool. Anyone know where to get them? At a reasonable retail price?

General Questions / Deeper wah enclosure?
January 01, 2013, 07:48:56 AM
Having populated my weener PCB, and found a old Dunlop jh1 enclosure for cheap, it seems that the PCB won't quite fit with a yellow fasel on the board. Bummer. Altho I do have a Rosac NuWah and that would totally work, I'd rather not tear up a
"vintage" enclosure.

Does anyone know of a suitable enclosure that is a little deeper than the standard Dunlop wah enclosure that can be got on the cheap?
The thought of a daughter board with a couple of inductors on it and a switch has occurred to me, but it's pretty tight in there....
