I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the pin out for the Smallbear/macron vactrols. I have a pair of 5ct3 work alikes for a compressor and I can't for the life of me figure out which leg of the LED side is the anode and which is the cathode.

The dot is on the opposite side of the letter (a "c" in this case) and is on the same side as the short leg. Normally I would just stick the long leg in the square PD and be done with it, but these things are screwy.

And I am also too breadboard incompetent to put a LED in series to figure it out that way.

Send help. Please!

stahhhhhhhp.

The klon diodes are just 1N34A. There's no speculation, Bill F told everyone on The Gear Page.

Please stop using up cheap Russian diodes with a .27 forward voltage telling people they're magic in some stupid overdrive pedal, they're more useful in designs that need the lower forward voltage.

p.s. I know something about this first hand. I once told people on this forum I liked how a diode sounded in a klone and the next thing I knew they were bought out from ebay and cost like $5 each, and those weren't even remotely close to a 1N34A (they were much higher fv).

You jerk!

I had to get 10 OA116's instead of the REALLY GOOD diodes and I'm still upset about it!

I have so many digital pedals (and more in the plan) that I honestly wouldn't consider anything other than the Strymon PSU's now.

Poor guy picked up a couple stomach bugs over the months, but he's doing great. Pushing 50 lbs already. Nothings been easy - or cheap, lol. I knew puppies were a lot of work, but wow.

He's a good boy, though.

How long did he take to dry?

The flow jumbos are great. The 4.2mm ones are monstrous and I'm not sure if it's in a good way.

Sounds like a great selection of circuits. I would play that bad boy in church.

Nurk does, actually.

So far, nobody has noticed the graphics.

I'm glad I'm not the only church player who can be a little salty. Working around cops, and people accused of crimes, and other lawyers isn't a great environment for clean language.

TGP is kinda a cesspool of stupidity.

I'd love to see a full-featured DIY compressor - gain reduction LED metering, attack, release, ratio, volume, and clean blend controls, relay switching.

Sounds like a P R E M I U M product that the Bean could put out as a PLR board.

I think the Aion switch are Taiway. Taiway toggles are top notch, so I assume their stomps are as well. I haven't seen these particular 3pdt available for sale anywhere, though :|

If you're looking for high quality 3pdt, there are other options... smallbear sells Alpha branded 3pdt. $5.50 a pop with quantity discounts... http://www.smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/alpha-sf17020f-0302-3pdt/

Fulltone sells uber premium footswitches $16 :O ... https://www.fulltone.com/products/fulltone-3pdt-switch

FWIW, i don't build for the public, but I've boxed >50 pedals. Almost all of them have been Tayda cheapo 3pdt. Not a single one has failed yet.

The best source for Alpha 3pdt switches (in terms of cost) has been PPP in the past. 3.50/per AFAIK.

I moved on to digital, Axe-FX. When I was still using an analog board I could justify to myself that out of the 4 to 6 pedals a month that I was building something might make it on my board. Now the Axe-FX covers all my needs, so nothing I build will get any use, so why build any pedals?

So now I build guitars instead. Cause the madness never ends, it just changes its face. ;)

I'm moving on to DIY IEM's. If someone smarter than me here made little and boards with 3, 4 and 5 way crossovers for the knowles drivers the head fi crowd would love it

That's very cool.  I'd like to see what you make.

IEM design is what I do for my day job, so it's fun to see the growth of the DIY community.

I am building a set with the pre-fab Knowles GK (triple driver). I bought Krystalcalloid from Lightning enterprises, along with Fotoplast UV Resin and Dreve UV Lacquer. MMCX connectors. I ended up getting good impressions from the Westone single use impression material.

I had a fun time taking my impressions the other day - the foam dam got mashed on one side of my ear canal and the impression went a little deep. I thought my brain was going to come out when I started pulling it out. Luckily it didn't quite get to my ear drum!

I might try to do an in depth write up when I'm done. There is an enormous 900+ thread on head-fi but it's really disorganized.

Could you post some pictures of what you've built?

Not yet - I'm still waiting on some stuff from China. Soon though!

I'm not building near as much as I used to, but I still have my junk and build a pedal every few months.

I've thought about moving on from the hobby completely, but don't need to and like having the ability to bodge together some stuff.
