Quote from: Marshall Arts on October 24, 2018, 08:05:32 PMI would guess input jack to lug 1 if lug 3 is Gnd. Lug2 to buffer Input, buffer output to output jacks.
This worked perfectly. Fixed the problems. Thanks!

Quote from: playpunk on October 24, 2018, 09:12:22 PMI pulled the whole PCB out of the Ernie Ball VP I did this to. I put the buffer in front of the volume pot. I used the Aziltz/Coldcraft dual buffer board.

The volume swell worked perfectly on that pedal (until the string broke. I'ts still broken. I won't ever try to fix it again)
Let me know if you'd like to unload it! This job was for a friend, and I kinda want one for myself. I wouldn't mind trying the string replacement job.

PM me your address and you can have the whole kit and caboodle. It seems like a cruel thing to ask for money for.

Hey all, I'm trying to get this fairly simple thing to work, and I can't figure out what's going wrong. Thanks in advance for your advice!

What I want to do is add a dual output buffer to an Ernie Ball VP Jr. Here's what I did:

  • I populated a PCB, tested that both outputs worked, and set to installing it.
  • I installed a DC jack into the VP and connected PCB power and ground to it. (Also connected an LED/CLR.)
  • I cut traces on the board that connect the IN jack to the tuner OUT jack and the volume pot.
  • I connected the PCB input to the tip of the IN jack.
  • I connected one output to the tip of the tuner OUT jack.
  • I connected the other output to the PCB pad that is connected to the middle lug of the volume pot.
  • I connected the DC jack sleeve to one of the I/O jack sleeves.
Now the pedal functions basically like an on/off switch. Heel down, it's off. As soon as I push the treadle forward at all, it comes in at full volume and stays there for the whole sweep. Any ideas or suggestions?

Nice! I am deconverting from Kemper + remote to my big bird. No switcher for me though, and a Selah Quartz for midi.

Just need to get a couple more pedals finished and I'll be wiring everything up.

Love each of these. Fantastic. I dig the aesthetic.

Wow, that's a georgeous build! And I was just briefly believing you about messy wiring, then I remembered who you are and wasn't dissapointed once I scrolled down to the gut shot. That muff board is also pleasingly symmetrical :)

Any reason you still use 3pdt and not optical or relay bypass?

It's a good question.  I have had very few failures with 3PDT switches over the years, so the switch to optical wasn't really worth it to me.  I do prefer relay bypass (we use it in all the FFX pedals) and will likely start using it more in larger builds.  This particular build is almost never going to use the built in switches (it will use an external switcher on the board) so it wouldn't have been worth the added cost for the person who commissioned it.

With the mini builds I do, I'd really like to find a non-click momentary footswitch in the same form factor as a standard vertical footswitch.  The ones we use for FFX are like the Carling style, which won't fit with the full size jacks I use in my 1590A builds.  I'm not a fan of the momentaries with a click (like the Alpha 2PDT and similar).  I suspect the right switch is out there, but I haven't dug very deep.

I'm gonna need a little wiring board with Relay Bypass to have the most expensive switching option possible :)

Sunking II. Could only fit 2 of the 3 switches, but kinda wish I had just left all the mods off. d9e and LED diodes.

It sounds great. You can also see the computer amp-overlord in the picture.

Quote from: pickdropper on October 08, 2018, 06:59:09 PMIt's one of the things that would prevent me from getting a Kemperer; at least right now.

The Kemper is pretty amazing. I've had one for a year and a half and would have a hard time going back to a "real" amp, at least for my uses - playing at home and through a PA at church.

The only exception I would make would be an OX box and true stereo tube amps. I guess 2 ox boxes, in that case. But the Kemper is just so good I can't imagine the analog rig with a load box and IR's would be much better.

I just got a Third Rail - I'm way behind the curve! I need a clusterfuzz, too.

Awesome. You'll want to check that yours has the latest firmware. To do that, unplug it from the power supply and wait a few seconds. Then plug the power jack back in while watching the main bypass LED (the big one). If it flashes white for a half a second and then turns blue, it's up to date. If not, let me or Pickdropper know and we'll arrange to get it flashed to the newest version for you.

Great. I'll check it later - it's a really good drive. It's got the honk you need and it sounds interesting too. I have only played with it a little bit so far, but hopefully I'll have some more time this week to fart around with it.

That looks really good. It would be nice for someone trying to build, say, all of the new Aion projects that will have common design principles.

Or the new fancy madbean deluxe high class projects, for instance.

The egodriver was the first project I made that actually worked! I love the idea of these - and you know I'll order em!

Another big thing is that digital is just so good now. I have a Kemper and it is really an unbelievable piece of gear. The Helix is an even more economical option and it is superb as well. If you can spend $1500 on a Helix and have everything you could ever want there is really no driving force to build. Shoot I probably have $1500 of pedal junk (at retail) in my basement right now.

Right now i build when I can because I enjoy it, but there's no urgency.
