I remember seeing an awesome site for buying XLR and 1/4' connectors along with bulk cable but I can't remember where it was.

Recommendations please  :)

Build Reports / Pair of Kings "Kingslayer"
November 20, 2012, 03:36:16 PM
Here is my protoboard and the new Kingslayer board I built up. Both have bat41's and 1n34's at the moment but I am looking forward to swapping out some diodes. I also want to try some other IC's because one of them (don't remember at the moment) is having a fizzy/splatty decay at the end of the notes.

But, awesome circuit. The gold hammertone is stock. The darker rosemary hammertone has a 250kb gain pot and is wired for true bypass. This of course oscillates at extreme settings so I will swap it out for a 200kb or if I ever get the hang of modifying pot tapers, I will do that.

I posted on diystomp and didn't receive any replies. Even after I bumped it. Maybe somebody here can lend a hand.

A buddy gave me his boss DM3 to fix. It has a static noise buildup that goes away if you shake it or lift it it up and put it down. The delay sounds great and works well. The noise does not cut out the output. I checked the solder joints, jacks, and pots and do not see anything wrong yet. Everything is tight and not shorting out that I can see.

Is this common? I have an old DM2 and have not had this issue.

Could it be that the electrolytic caps are worn out?
I just wanted to get another opinion before I start replacing the electrolytics. There is like 25 of them......

Also, if I do do that, there are some super low polarized values I havent seen before. Like 0.1 uf electrolytic. Is it alright to use a "normal" film cap here?

Thanks team!

Hey Folks,

Built a Pastyface to Sola Sound Specs
I used the Continental set from Small Bear for the Germaniums
Only substitution was adding in the bias trimpot

I am not sure what my voltages should be. The first two look normal for what I know about fuzz faces. Not sure about Q3

Q1
4.15
1.55
1.46

Q2
4.15
1.46
1.34

Q3 (trim at minimum)
0.14
0.1
0

Q3 (trim at maximum)
1.18
0.1
0

Any help and recommended readings appreciated!

Here we have a Lavache that turned out sounding great. Sounds similiar to my 5E3 Deluxe but with a lot less volume  ;D I still have to swap out the 2n5088 with a 2n3565 and hear the difference. I used gold hammertone for the finish.

Next up is my new Egodriver. Built it stock but chose to run it at 18v with a road rage board because of comments on here saying it sounds better. Don't have another to compare it to but it sounds awesome. The finish is gold hammertone on the sides with silver hammertone on top.

Here are my first baby builds.

I am really digging the afterlife. I find it doesn't squash my attack like other comps. A really great sounding compressor. Copper hammertone finish

The Hipster sounds really funky right now in a good way. I am going to have to recheck what transistors are in there. i swapped out about 20 pairs until I found a combo that sounded somewhat "different". I tried it with another amp and guitar, and the sound wasn't really happening for me. I still have to experiment some more. I also used a 1kC pot which is working great. The finish is silver hammertone on top of black.

This is a plain ol' loop switch based off of the general guitar gadgets wiring. She works. The finish is purple underneath with a topcoat of silver hammertone.

I built my ver.2 Pork Barrel and it is sound great but I have a huge volume drop when I don't have the "vibe" mod activated.

I also don't know if I hear any difference with the "wet" mod engaged.

The pedal sounds great when in vibe mode though ;D. I don't know where to start debugging on this guy.

Build Reports / Macheen "Terminator"

Built stock but with the limit control on the outside. Sounds Gnarly and Nasty!! I did the finish in cloth then clearcoated. Don't know if this will make it onto my main board but its pretty cool.

Here is the Muffintop I built. Sounds great! I built it stock and finished it with silver hammertone.

Build Reports / Smoothie!
September 28, 2012, 03:29:35 PM
Finish is partially inspired by Jon "Midwayfair" and REJ customs!!

I built it stock except for the "vibe mod" (thanks to Josh "Gtr2" and Brian "Madbean"). Replaced c5 with a dpdt throw switch with 10n on one side and 100n on the other. I might try some different values because I am having a hard time hearing a difference. I think it might just be subtle. I also don't have matched transistors. I just went through a bunch of them and found two that phased. I am going to have to hit up Jacob Kokura for a tester!

Open Discussion / Solder!!! Opinions, reviews, love, hate
September 10, 2012, 09:01:56 PM
I am in need of a new roll. Spent about $35us on my last roll at mouser of:
1lb MG chemicals 60/40, 0.032", 22 gauge, 2.2%flux

http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/MG-Chemicals/4895-454G/?qs=%2fha2pyFaduj3%2fLI2Oovzl9gIERJeJQH2ZVJRQIbUqTc%3d

So, recommendations for the new stuff?

From searching, I got Brians recommendation of Kester is 63/37/.031 from another thread.

Build Reports / Snarkdoodle "Snark"
August 25, 2012, 09:07:32 AM
Here is my Snarkdoodle. IT IS LOUD!!!! hahaha. I socked the differences between the two versions on the build docs but I haven't switched between any yet. Can't wait to try it out in a live situation.

A couple lowriders for two good friends. Built stock with 'Bean' specs, leave out C12 and 1n for C10.
I thought the trimpot wasn't doing anything until I actually re-read and followed the directions. Helped me tune in the high octave as advertised.

Open Discussion / Salvaging these parts.
July 20, 2012, 02:07:56 PM
Okay so my father is an optometrist and has a room full of old electronic equipment. I pulled some stuff and found some Sprague caps! thought there might be some more stuff worth pulling.

I am terrible at removing stuff from PCB's. I started this thread to get some extra eyes on parts to see what is worth it to remove. I will keep updating with pics.

What diodes are these?

Open Discussion / Tayda Jacks, anyone tried them?
June 29, 2012, 03:40:46 PM
Hi there, I know there are a few tayda threads about quality and components but I wasn't able to find one about their 1/4" jacks.

Who has tried them? Opinions?
#19
So I was at my local music store and they asked if I was interested in some old switches that they didn't have the amps for anymore. I of course said yes because who turns down cheap parts. They brought me a box full of brand new amp footswitches!!!

So I know some have these board mounted little boss type switches but some have DPDT stomps that I can use.

Also two adapters!

If you need one of these let me know! I don't know if they are for a specific unit or not.

I am planning on just gutting them and using them for pedal enclosures (couple loop switches and such). If you have one of the amps that uses one of these, and need a footswitch, let me know. I have too many but couldn't pass up a good deal.

Also, if you have any other cool ideas let me know.

Build Reports / Lowrider "Spacey"

Here is a lowrider. Still fiddling with the caps mentioned in the build docs to tweak the upper octave. Sounds Gnarly!
