Build Reports / Double Flush Trem!
March 21, 2011, 08:31:56 AM
Made this one in the last couple days, sounds really nice, i especially like the blend control to mix between the effect and dry guitar, works really well to add a bit of background shimmer. The intensity control i dont like as much, when its full up its kinda sounds like its overloading the signal, i like it all the way down to be honest. Ive got an EA Tremolo as well so im making comparisons ;)
Anyway I built it for a friend for his 21st. He is a big fan of La Dispute who have a song called The Last Lost Continent, so i thought id tie it in ;) I planned to fit a battery in there bit i just couldnt squeeze it in without not being able to get the back on.. so i just left it out. Was also my first time using waterslide decals, so a couple are a little wonky. The colour is actually bronze with red and white splatter.
Wish I could keep it.. might have to make another!!

Looks great! Love the clean finish, colour and choice of knobs. Also that's cool how you mounted the switches on the side. Might have to build myself one of these too.. Man there's too many projects I wanna do!

Yeah its just spray paint really! So sprayed half of it blue and the other half purple, then did a kind of light spray of gold over the purple side (you cant really see in the pic) and then a misty white spray over the whole thing in bits. Used a spray on gloss and it tends to react to the white for some reason and make it look the way it does, but its cool!

Build Reports / Aristocrat!!
March 18, 2011, 04:45:35 AM
Finally got this one finished and working! Wired it up last weekend then plugged it in and nothing happened  :( But i pulled it back out, had a few days rest and realised i'd just wired the DC jack battery and adapter positive terminals the wrong way around ehh.
All good now though and it sounds very nice! Much like what I was expecting, the purple side is normal (wth pink LED) and the blue side (with Blue LED) is high gain mod and external switches for the diode clipping! I was a little wonky with the drilling you can probably tell but luckily the big knobs dont get it the way.
Anyway great circuit and thankyou very much Mr Bean for the pcb and all the resources on this great site! Ive done 4 bean builds so far and working on a Sunking next!

Build Reports / Re: Egodriver!!

Thanks for the kind words!

Maybe it was deceptive of me to say "sparkles", but i used a gold spray paint with a fine mist nozzle from a distance to give it that kind of sparkle effect, whereas the yellow and purple had a thicker nozzle for more of a splatter effect. Maybe you can tell I really enjoying painting the enclosures.. ;)

Interesting about the way the volume pot is wired in this circuit, I knew i could hear a noticeable difference with it turned up, thanks for that info stecykml and B_of_H. I do like it anyway, seems to have a wider tone knob range than my V3 OCD too.

The mini 3pdt i got from pedalpartsaustralia.com.

Heres a gut shot too, although most of the wiring is hidden because i decided to mount the pcb solder side up for this one.

Build Reports / Egodriver!!
March 04, 2011, 08:30:52 AM
Heres an Egodriver I finished up today. Sounds great! Used a bunch of components I hadnt used before like the isolated jacks (really good) and a miniture sized 3pdt (really hard to wire but i like the clicking action on it). I was going to wire up the road rage inside to make it switchable between 9V and ~18V but couldnt wait for the components to arrive haha.
Painted black with gold sparkle and yellow and purple splatter.
One thing I notice (and its the same with my V.3 OCD) is the tone changes dramatically when you crank the volume control, sounds like it really comes to life. Is there a circuit based reason for this eg is the volume control connected to a part of the circuit that would do this? Or is it just that its pushing my amp harder..?

Build Reports / Re: Slow Loris and Yellow Shark!
February 22, 2011, 10:35:02 AM
Thanks madbean!
Ive come up with a bit of a technique im now using on all my pedals, which is just mixing spray paint colours eg the Yellow Shark is base coat Gold spray, with lighter sprays of yellow and cream on top to give it a speckled kind of yellowy finish.
The Slow Loris is Silver with black spray on top, and actually its hard to tell but the lettering is hammered into the enclosure. It became a bit hard to read when i sprayed over it though, so gotta figure out another way to do that..

edit: I dont mean to spam but if you like the colours have a look at some others pedals ive made with the same spray technique at http://petespedals.tumblr.com/

Build Reports / Slow Loris and Yellow Shark!
February 22, 2011, 07:18:07 AM
My first madbean builds!
Both turned out awesome and worked first go, i am really diggin the Yellow Shark especially. Very cool sounding overdrive.
With the Slow Loris you can see two 3mm lights next to the tone control, these are the clipping diodes (blue) so they light up when you play with the switch on LED clipping. I wasnt sure how it would turn out but it works really well and looks cool.

Now I've got Sunking, Aristocrat, Egodriver and Double Flush Tremolo pcb's to move on to!
