I have a short phrase that I need translated. I added a period in the translator on google and the words changed. So I'm weary of using that answer. It's going to be a permanent thing (not a tattoo :P) so I want t be 100% sure it's correct.

It's a bit of a controversial/possibly offensive phrase, so just PM me and I'll let you know.

I was out at a junkyard getting a new front end for my truck, and I got talking to the guy out there with me. He was surprised that I have never ''touched off an airbag''. So he found a truck with one still intact and gave it to me.

My question is what should I do with it?  I don't want to do anything dangerous to people. I'm just trying to think of something fun to do with it.

Open Discussion / Bi-color LED clipper.
April 18, 2014, 10:42:35 PM
Has anyone ever used a bi-color led for clipping? I have one that I'm thinking about trying in a circuit.

I asked at DIYSB and instantly got a useless answer from one of the 'elite' members  ::)

Audio/Video Demos / Current Lover
March 24, 2014, 12:47:12 AM
After a few hiccups and setbacks, I have finished my first toner transfer etch on a Current Lover.  :)

I built up a current lover board and it's only putting out a clean signal, no flanging whatsoever.
Tinkering around I found that a wall wart will make the zener diode heat up, but with a fresh battery it's fine. I changed out the diode just to be on the safe side. Then I went through checking pinouts, polarity, and several cap and resistor values, but no love.

Here's the voltages. If a picture is needed I can post one.

Build Reports / Granny's Klon (Sunking)
March 17, 2014, 09:19:13 PM
About a month ago I was blown away when my grandma asked me to make her a klon. Finally the last parts came in the mail today. So I threw it together and snapped these pictures. I'll film a video of her playing it when I take it to her. It feels weird to spend so much time on a pedal I'm making for free. ;D

It was laser etched, but the contrast of the aluminum and the gold vein powdercoat made it impossible to read. I used a technique a gunsmith taught me. I warmed up the enclosure and rubbed a white crayon in the etch, then buffed the excess away.

Open Discussion / Tips or help with a graphic.
March 16, 2014, 09:50:28 AM
Lately I have been trying to learn how to use inkscape. I have learned a ton in the last few days such as how to use trace bitmap and editing nodes etc. So now I wanted to give a go at etching an enclosure for a current lover and this is what I have come up with so far.

My question is how can I clean this up a bit more? The lines aren't squared up like I would like. I tried editing nodes for a while and it only got me so far.   Any suggestions or anyone willing to help? I can email the files if someone wants to help.

Open Discussion / Where can I find klon style knobs?
February 27, 2014, 07:25:43 PM
I ordered some from PPP and they were way smaller than I thought they would be. Does anybody know where to get full sized Davies 1400 style knobs? I've been searching around, but am coming up empty.

Open Discussion / I need an etchable centaur layout
February 22, 2014, 07:30:34 PM
I did a bit of searching, but I could only find one or two etch able layouts and there was no build docs/wiring diagrams.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Open Discussion / Big score at a local electronics store.
February 07, 2014, 04:34:26 PM
I am the only person that is allowed to browse this little out of business electronics store. So I get to cherry pick from TONS of new old stock stuff.

Today I got a crazy deal on some bulk transistors and this-and-that.

Starting off with 1000 1n4005, NTE germs, GE brand 2n170, 2n2160, GE-X10, about 1500 ECG123a transistors, about 1000 ECG128 transistors, a box of mallory axial caps(LOTS more where that came from) and lil bits and pieces.

No power all night, freezing temps, transformers blowing every few seconds lighting up the dark sky like the 4th of july. Walking around the block checking on the old folks, dodging falling trees and downed power lines.   Fun times.

The south can't handle the cold :o

Open Discussion / I have a pretty cool grandma. (VIDEO)
January 12, 2014, 05:13:49 PM
I got a call from my grandma a few minutes ago. Normally I don't like phone calls with her because they last SO long. But this one was quite interesting.

She wants me to build her a couple pedals.   What makes it even cooler is she specifically asked for a klon!   :o  8)

Now who here has been asked by a 90 year old lady to build a klon and a chorus for em?  ;D

I just picked up some Russian surplus ammunition and I was thinking about what to do with the metal can it came in.
BOOM.... Amp chassis. I bet if you found a place that sells surplus ammo you could get it for free or next to nothing.
It's from some surplus 7.62x54R. They call it a spam can.

Anybody have any ideas for other amp chassis?
