General Questions / Shielded cable
March 19, 2013, 06:43:40 AM
Couple questions about shielded cable.

1.  I've read you should shield both the the "in" and "out". Is that the in and out from the guitar jacks or to and from the board?

2.   Does it matter where you ground the shield to?

3.  If this cuts down on noise, would it be a good practice for every build?

Thanks in advance

isn't that one brian did in the Zero Point build guide? not a standalone faceplate one..

That's it. Thank you.

Here is the link for whoever else is interested.

General Questions / Etching Faceplates

I saw a tutorial once by Brian on etching a faceplate. Now I can't find it anywhere. Does anybody have a link to it?

Hey Dave. Are there any more boards.

Thanks Jon. I guess what I was asking is when you see a parts layout, it's easy to tell how to place a transistor that has that same shape of being round with one side flattened, but when the transistor is round, is there a way to tell which one is the emitter? Just trying to find out if there is a key that I'm missing.

Building a Cosmopolitan and have a couple of questions.

How do I know what the collector-base-emitter is on Q2 and Q3? Those transistors are round.

Does anybody have  suggestion for substituting the AC127?

Thanks guys,
Bill

Questions came to mind. What thickness of PCB are you using? Is it laminated? Are you using the guide on the saw to get a straight cut or having to do it by hand?

I just noticed a thread where you etch face plates. I want to try that also, so I got the saw to be able to make perfectly straight cuts.

I've used both 1 oz and 5 oz goes through both like butter. I am using the guide, so the cuts are perfectly.

I discovered this method through Google. There are a lot of people out there using it.

I'll try to figure out how to do photos. Basically it's just a straight piece of PCB board.

Had some points on my Amazon CC and picked up a wet tile saw. This thing whizzes through PCB's and because it is wet it cuts down on all the fiberglass dust being thrown around. I am impressed.

Obviously just a desperate attempt here to add to my post count.

I wanted to order a small supply of the box capacitors to have on hand. Is there some common values that I should have. I tried to do a search on this but obviously my search abilities are rubbish.

The two prefixes I provided are both 5mm spacing; I got them from this thread, which you may also find helpful: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=2970.0

That is a great thread. Good to see others get lost at Mouser and it's not just me being stupid.
