To answer your question Bill, if you don't know what they are, I wouldn't buy them.  Some of the cheaper caps have wildly open tolerances.  +80/-20% isn't uncommon.  That's in addition to the temperature and voltage fluctuations I mentioned above.

A better bet is to check Newark periodically for sales.  If you catch them at the right time, you can get good quality MLCC caps for a couple cents a piece.

I checked Newark for x7r's and they were expensive. Is there a cheaper brand etc. that you look for?

i always cut them off. to make sure they are straight and with proper spacing, i stick the legs through a piece of veroboard, three holes in three adjacent strips. i then straighten anything crooked and snip from below.

Same way I do it. I also use a peice of perf to bend the legs for diodes like the 1n4001's 4 rows and it is a perfect fit.

Great looking collection. Stinking 1590a builds, so addictive. The METH of diy.

Really nice graphics and very clean wiring! Where do you buy those small electrolytics?

I got them from Paul (chromesphere). He sells an assortment of low profile caps.
Great guy, you can't go wrong buying from him.

General Questions / MLCC caps from China

Was browsing Ebay and saw all these great prices on MLCC caps. They are the yellow ones that look like Tayda's. Anybody have any experience with these?

Took almost a year off. Life got busy plus I just couldn't be bothered with it all when I did have the time. About a month ago I became interested again and have been building a lot lately. It's fun again. If it's just a hobby do it when you feel like it and will enjoy it. No pressure.

Stock Smoothie decal and Envirotex. I'm starting to get used to the ridiculous size of these things. Like others have said, they are a bit addictive. Oh yeah...Great sounding pedal.
