Got the bias issue solved, got the regulator issue solved, now it's a really really weird thing:

Even when the pedal is not powered, it passes signal when engaged. It is very faint, but it's there. I have it wired true bypass. I am assuming I have a short somewhere on my switch, but wanted to see what you guys thought. More digging to follow...

Hey all,

So my total recall works (mostly) as it should, but the blend knob is really weird. I get unity blend with the knob at like 9 o'clock. With it at noon, the repeats are WAY louder than the dry signal. Anyone else experience this?

Just to double check my thought, if I put an on/off switch between the 9v socket and the pcb, I can use that as a power kill switch to the pedal, right? I have a Harbinger One and I like to keep it off until I know that I am going to use it for a song so as to maximize the lifespan of the lightbulb. Thanks!

So I had a faulty barrel plug on my Total Recall, so I swapped it out (wires are oriented correct, positive center). I plug in the PSU and turn it on, heard a loud pop, and now the pedal is dead. I checked the voltage on the EHX power supply, and I'm reading 33 volts DC. Could that have fried the board? If so, what are the likely components I'd have to replace? I'm assuming the LM7915, but is there anything else I should be looking hard at? I'm thinking maybe the 1N4751a as well, as it's only rated to 30v?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Madbean Total Recall question
February 12, 2019, 07:09:30 AM
Hey all,

I built a Total Recall and biased it per the revised instructions (pin 7 and 14/15 of the V571 for Gain 2). It works but...it just doesn't feel right. I can get self oscillation, but that's not until like max feedback. I only get one or two repeats until the feedback pot is at the halfway mark. Any thoughts?

On top of that, I feel like the repeats are very...abrupt? Is that normal? The only other analog delay I have to compare to is the Aqua Boy I built, and the repeats seem much more organic.

Thanks all1

Tech Help - Projects Page / Lunar Module cap substitution
December 31, 2014, 07:01:25 AM
Hey all,
I'm building a Lunar Module, and C13 calls for a 2n; however, I have a 2n2. Do you think it will adversely affect the pedal if I make that substitution?

Build Reports / Queen of what kind of clone?
May 28, 2014, 07:22:49 PM
Finished Rullywow's KOT Clone (Queen of Bone). SOUNDS. AMAZING. I have the red side as OD and the Yellow side as Dist...absolutely loving the tones I'm getting out of it. I have a JRC 4558 in the red side and an OPA2134 in the yellow, and I'm running it at 18 volts. Diodes used were 1n4148 and BA282
In addition, rullywow's breakout boards are making wiring such a breeze. It's not as neat as I'd like it to be, but I'm definitely getting better. I was going to do labels...but I kind of like the blank look.

Ignore the mismatched knobs, I'm waiting on knobbies to get here from mammoth :)

I built an afterlife comp, and when I wired it all up to test it, I noticed the LED is always on, even in bypass. Furthermore, I get no signal when I hit the switch. I tested the signal, and it looks like there's nothing going into input, even from the switch. The bottom left lug is input, right? What's the probability of a bad switch?

I present to you...CLEAN TONE!

Partscaster straight into a Blues Junior. Could use some comp, though. hmm.

Open Discussion / Who's got vintage gear?
May 10, 2014, 01:15:42 PM
'67 drip edge AB165 Bassman that I modded to hybrid AA864 specs. Installed new electrolytics a couple years back.

The kicker? I bought it for 200 bucks! The only thing wrong with it is it had a blown fuse and the jewel light was out.

Audio/Video Demos / Another Cosmo vid
April 29, 2014, 11:25:36 AM
Seriously, I love this pedal. Cosmo with an AC127 in it (had a 2N1304 in it before, swapped it out just to see).
this was more of a recording test, as I recently got a mic/mixer/interface.

General Questions / PCB mounted switch?
April 28, 2014, 07:38:24 AM
So I am going to build a Fatpants, but want the body and soft switches to be internal (Not external switches). Any suggestions on the best parts for this? Thanks!

So my signal chain goes like this:

Crybaby
Analogman KoT clone
Cosmopolitan
Sea Urchin
Amp

Gear: 2 strats, one with humbuckers, one with single coils, a Blues Junior, and a '67 Bassman.

I kind of want to get an EP Booster, as I've heard they do amazing things to the strat tone, but I feel like 3 OD/Boost/Dist pedals is a bit overkill.

Tried a compressor, not really feeling it.

Modulation? Hmm. I do have a phaser, but can't see myself using it much...

Opinions welcome!

General Questions / Dip switch
April 24, 2014, 07:06:10 AM
So I am currently ordering parts for a KoT clone, and it calls for 2 2 position dip switches; are the dip switches SPST or SPDT? Thanks! :)

General Questions / Transistor leakage
April 21, 2014, 08:56:20 AM
Hey all,

just curious; what is considered "high leakage"? I ordered some AC176s from the fleabay, and they range from .3-.4 leakage (I'm assuming 300-400 mA).

Tech Help - Projects Page / Afterlife problem
April 18, 2014, 06:32:45 AM
Hey all,

So I am getting very little response from the Afterlife, then it comes on very strong as I near the max turn of the potentiometer. Same goes with the volume.

General Questions / Fatpants V1 cap value

Hey all, looking for the cap value for C6 on the older V1 Fatpants? Should be an electrolytic. Thanks!

Open Discussion / Pedalboard ideas...
December 30, 2013, 08:43:54 AM
So in my attempt to downsize, I have reduced to the following:

Afterlife Comp
TS808 (Gearmandude Luther Drive)
Cosmopolitan (Skreddy Screwdriver)
Sea Urchin Delay (Deep Blue Delay)

What do you think? I was thinking MAYBE a chorus/phaser, but then it starts adding up again....the only thing I'd maybe add is a wah....

I usually play classic rock/blues, although sometimes I delve into 90s rock (Bush, etc.) just for fun...
