I'm curious. What kind of electronics should I scavenge for to try and find some Ge transistors? Not really thinking I'll go out and do it, but the thought has piqued my DIY curiosity  ;D

I was over at FSB, and although I don't spend too much time there, I notice that there are a handful of boutique builders who are held in very high regard that contribute regularly. The three that I've seen are Marc of Skreddy Pedals, Brian Wampler (indyguitarist), and Paul Cochrane. Any that I am missing?

I find it very cool that although they won't divulge ALL the info, they generally lend a hand in dissection and schematic. It makes me want to purchase their products even more to support them.

I am dying to make one of these bad boys. Any idea when the new pcb will be out?

Audio/Video Demos / Finally dialed in my tone!
November 26, 2011, 10:15:10 AM
The fat pants is amazing. I finally got my clean tone exactly the way I want it. It took adjusting the pickups a bit as well as fiddling with the Fat Pants, which is an always on pedal for me. Take a listen, let me know what you think!

I've been getting a lot of compliments on my tone lately, and I attribute it 110000% to the Fat Pants. Thanks, Madbean, for making this PCB!

Don't know where else to put this...I just did a quick loop jam thingy. Fat Pants is always on. The Pork Barrel is on from the beginning to about 1:30; it's a bit more subtle, though. After that, the PB is off and the Serendipity gets kicked on. Let me know what you think! Not the best playing, but hopefully it does the pedals some justice.

General Questions / 250kC sourcing?
March 05, 2011, 06:41:43 PM
Any idea where I can get a 250kC pot? I'd prefer 24mm, but if not, I know PPP has the 16mm in stock. Thanks!

Open Discussion / '67 Bassman amp, modded!
March 02, 2011, 07:27:45 PM
First off, I want to thank you guys for indirectly helping me do this. Before I learned how to build pedals and read schems, the simple thought of working on my amp intimidated me. Thanks to Brian and all of you kind folks who have helped me out, I finally attained enough knowledge to do this! Anyway, I digress.

I'm just about finished modding it to my tastes. I reworked the circuit to get the normal channel back to close to original blackface fender circuitry, and replaced all the electrolytic capacitors. I did these mods:
http://acruhl.freeshell.org/mga/main/AA864_vs_AB165.html

All electrolytic capacitors were replaced with Sprague Atom caps.

The "bass" channel is where it gets really interesting. I rewired and replaced some values to bring it closer to a Marshall-esque flavor. he tone isn't exactly plexi, but it gets close. So now, I have an amp that will do Fender cleans, and Marshall crunch if I choose. More specifically, the tone stack caps were swapped from .1uf to .022uf. The deep switch is no longer wired to a .1uf, but a 2200pf cap. The 250pf treble cap was swapped for a 500pf, and the slope resistor was changed from 100k to 33k. Last but not least, the 6.8k resistor on the bass pot was changed to a 22k to let more mids through.
The best part is, I can even run the two channels in parallel, and get some crazy thick tones. PICS! Enjoy!

Open Discussion / BC550B in a wah..
February 28, 2011, 08:06:40 PM
So I was pretty set on trying out a BC109 in my wah, but I had to order some stuff from Mouser, so I thought I'd try a BC550B on a whim.

Short story, holy crap, am I glad I tried it out! When I swapped my standard inductor out for the red fasel, I was kind of disappointed; swapping out the MPSA18 to the BC550B made a HUGE difference! I highly recommend this mod to anyone who is looking to swap transistors.

Word of warning though, the pinout on the BC550B is EBC, while the MPSA18 is CBE.

General Questions / When you wire up your 9v battery..
February 22, 2011, 08:15:41 AM
How do you guys get such tight windings on your battery clip? I wind it by hand, but the coils just look sloppy and loose. Thanks!

Build Reports / Serendipity, another one! Plus Uproar
February 19, 2011, 07:53:08 AM
Wow, 4th person in 24 hours to post a Serendipity build. Added also is my Uproar build. The Uproar was a pain in the butt for me, as I had some diode clipping issues, but thanks to Brian and the rest of you folks, I was able to figure it out. No labels yet, but that's the next thing I plan on tackling.
For those interested, I used an OPA2134 in the Serendipity build, and am extremely happy I did. Great tone out of that box, it has become my favorite OD, and knocked my Barber DDSS off the board.

My builds are nowhere near as clean as some of yours are, but hopefully with experience, I can get mine to that level. Let me know what you think!

Build Reports / Uproar: Almost done.
February 11, 2011, 03:07:01 PM
The wiring for input, output, and ground hasn't been completely cleaned up or soldered in place yet, since I am missing 2 capacitors, but other than that, the project is finished.

ignore the electrical tape on the battery clip, it's just a place holder, lol

I just got what I thought was my BOM for my Serendipity build. I forgot 2 1k resistors, a 4k7 resistor, a 470n cap, and a DIP8 socket. uuuuuuuuuugh. On the flip side, I apparently ordered an entire bag of .039 capacitors...so now I sit with my Riot missing a 1 uf and a .033 uf, and my Serendipity missing 4 simple components and a socket for my OPA2134. What a blast, lol

Where/how/what do you recommend I start purchasing in bulk?

So I just ordered the BOM for the Uproar, I'm praying I got the right Opamps. This will work fine, right?

When I have my delay on, but boost off, the repeats are fine, but when I hit the boost pedal, it cuts my repeats down to barely more than 1 or 2 repeats. Any ideas what would cause this? Unfortunately, I don't have an effects loop, since I'm playing out of a 67 bassman and a blues junior. Anyone else have anything like this?
It's a Biyang AD-8 delay with the PT2399 chip with a fat pants boost

Requests / Reverb?
January 17, 2011, 10:10:23 PM
First post here; first off, let me thank all of you for helping me out. I've learned so much by lurking, and just finished my first two pedals, the Fat Pants and Serendipity.

I was wondering, is there a DIY reverb in the works? I would love to take  a stab at it, but unfortunately GGG is the only place i know of that sells a diy reverb.
