Aquaboy , got delay now but overall level is low

I bought a built aquaboy from byoc sell trade page ,
It was represented as working at one time but then stopped out of the blue ,
So i knew this going in , hoping for an easy fix not misrepresented but .......
it passes clean signal  [ sounds like slight less than unity gain delay switched in ]
but no action from any of the controls .
it has the cool audio chips

In calibration none of the trimmers seem to do anything , the led flashes between
blue and orange at a rate that is unaffected by anything  [ doesn't change speed ]

Recomendations on where & how to start trouble shooting ?

Ahh, the refreshing aroma of debugging an analog delay.  I'd start working through the schematic with an audio probe.  See if you have a signal coming in and out of the v3201.  Check the voltage on the v3201.  Maybe its running a little to hot and bit the dust.  If chips are socketed, double check that they are making good contact with the socket.

EDIT: I don't understand what the LED is for (blue.orange).  Is there a modulation add on?  Plus if you can get all the IC voltages that would be helpful.

I can't claim credit for screwing this one , had hoped to save myself that by getting one already built !
Don't know why the led flashes but it does............ no switches or obvious add ons

The max spec voltage is 8v for the V3205. Yours is getting 9.7v  It could be toast from running a while at that voltage.  What value resistor is r19?  Do you have an audio probe where you can check the signal going into pin 7 of the v3205?

Strangely R19 seems to be a 220 ohm , anywhere better or cheaper
than small bear to order the I.C.'s ?
Should i get the clock i.c. as well ?

Hey ok, I just got done sourcing IC's, and as part of that was for the Aquaboy. Small Bear was the best bet that I could locate really. Having said that, I'm not expert on this but I did spend some fair amount of time poking around. I ended up ordering from Futerlec too for some IC's (they take freakin' forever though). I looked at Mouser too but I usually get a migraine trying to figure them out. Got only a few IC's from them as well. I ordered the Cool Audio chips from Small Bear at the end of the day for this build (although I'm holding out hope for an MN3005).

Just my 2pf's.

I looked back at the datasheet and it listed terminal voltage at 11V.  Can you fry one at 10V?  The max I've ever run one is 9V.

To the OP.  I'd start to debug with an audio probe before swapping around chips.

Yeah , the small bear price is not as bad as i feared
[ for a delay chip anywhere ]

Hey , fwiw I changed r 19 to the recommended 1.5 k , and while it
was apart , made sure no resisters were shorting and the connections good ,
so not sure what did it But, I have delay now! I have to run to work so will
calibrate it later [ sounds a little grungy ]

Depends which datasheet you read, but they should all be fine up to 10V (and probably 11 any way, they like to understate things a bit).

Operating voltage is better around 8V though, but his chips should not be fried.

Probably just a bad solder joint somewhere, glad it's up and running, you should hopefully be able to calibrate the grungyness out however you may need to make a few adjustments, as stated above, the 3205 chip runs better around 7-8V, what's yours getting now you've changed R19 to 1k5?

I put a 1k9 in R19 and that has made it alot less dirty in the repeats.  Mine was a little misbiased as I had closed it up in a hurry last Saturday night when I made the r19 change then I opened it up Sunday just before our set at Church and adjusted the bias, setting the trimpots on my double delay board to center and then I adjusted the main board bias till it cleaned up.  Got rid of all the clock noise! I can only say that the Holy Spirit stepped in and calibrated it for me!  I had tried and tried to calibrate it by ear, literally hours, and then in 30 seconds at church, whack it was all better!  Awesome God!

I don't mind a little grunginess [ to say , Analoge ]  I suppose different power adaptors
may put out slightly different voltages , maybe a good spot for a trimmer .
the fellow who had built mine put extensions on the already right angle pots to make it
sit out [ over the the led ? ] but i only resoldered the r19 , I'll give it another go over though .
And The Buhhda helped me with mine , I just relaxed , didn't worry and it came
[ after also getting some advice here , thanks ]

Any popular good mods for the the aquaboy ?

Hope it's offered as a buyable pcb , Is tap tempo doable in reasomable way ?

You can vero one really easily if you're not into etching.
