High Leakage Diodes make for bad distortion sound?

Not at all. The quality of the distortion can be very good. As is with everything, it depends on the circuit they're in.

What I've noticed with these is there will be a big reduction in amplitude, bass frequencies and intermodulation distortion when compared to less-leaky diodes.
"If you put all the knobs on your amplifier on 10 you can get a much higher reaction-to-effort ratio with an electric guitar than you can with an acoustic."
