Newbie builder

Hi everyone!
In the last few months i've been learning a lot from this forum, what does what etc..... Now i've got some boards from The Bean and some questions regarding general board manufacturing!

1: Do i mount the components flush to the board, or some distance from it?
2: Is there an order which works best? for instance: first resistors, then capacitors etc....
3: what kind of wire to use?

I will post some pics of my progress, all help will be much appreciated!

1) I mount most pretty close to flush.  Sometimes caps won't mount as close because of size of lead spacing.

2) I do it usually in this order...  resistors, diodes, sockets (for IC's), caps, transistors, pots, then I put the IC's in the sockets last

3) I use between 22 and 24 gauge.

Not much to add here, except that the 24 gauge pre-tinned wire available from smallbear is excellent.

I ordered some solid core wire from banzai, close to 24 gauge (we euro's don't use the "gauge", we're metric over here!) i'll see how it works. Any more insights that a newbie should know before starting off? By the way, just ordered the parts today, so it's gonna be at least a week before i start soldering...
