Will this regulator suffice in the Road Rage?

No.

Regulators in the 78 series are really easy to identify. The last two numbers indicate the regulated voltage, so 78L05 is for 5V, 78L12 is for 12V, etc.

You don't need a regulator for 18 volts from a Road Rage as far as I can work out.  The ~18V pad should give you a pretty well regulated and quiet 18 volt supply (or almost 18V anyway!) without actually putting a regulator on the board.  I've not quite finished my first Road Rage yet, but that's how I'm planning to try it.  I'll let you know.

You may need one if you feed the charge pump more than 9V. Some charge pumps will take 12v and put Out ~24V. In that case you might need an 18V regulator.

But he is right. Feed a charge pump 9.5V and you'll automatically get 18V.

I'm going 9V in and 18V out is all I'm really wanting.
