How close is the FZ-2 to the Univox Super Fuzz? I want a FZ-2 bad but don't want to pay $125 for a BOSS pedal. I know the behringer super fuzz is supposed to be a clone but I'd rather build something similar to get some Electric Wizard tones going.

I've had both the FZ-2 back when it first came out and a Super Fuzz/Standard Fuzz-type build that I did recently. The controls/tone switch worked similarly, but the FZ-2 is not as usable. Granted, I was only playing a solid state amp at the time, but it's harsher, and not in a good way. It would do this cheesy oscillation with the gain anywhere past 1:00 or 2:00. Build your own Super Fuzz if it's possible. It will cost less and sound better.
