I can't remember what transistors I used on mine (in smd), but I think it was something pretty common. Might be just a bad part or a tolerance stack with other components.

That's what I was thinking, too. I'll order more up.

Got it finished up. Just have to wire in the octave leds

Looking good. I'm curious to see it with the UV leds. I would get metal washers for the stomps though. IMO, the white plastic washers only look good in very rare cases.

I agree, I'm going to swap those over. Thanks for the tip. Doesn't go well with the etch right beneath it.

Alright, so this is definitely working with the one jumper. Transistor switching and diode switching works. I'm real happy with it. I've got 2 extra boards if somebody feels like building one.

The UV LEDs work well, but not *quite* how I had planned. They are super duper bright, but they don't light up the paper immediately. The paper does take a charge nicely, so when the lights are off, on a dark stage, it is super noticeable, and it gives the effect that I wanted.

I haven't quite figured out the best place to insert the sound2light board. On the output it acts funny, and on input 2 of the LEDs stay on all the time unless my tone knob is off. But it does flicker like I expected.

I'll put up a video of the lights tonight.

I'll build one.  How much do you want for the board? Looks alike a nice project.

I'm interested in the 2nd extra board.  It just needs a jumper?

Awesome, thanks for the tips, guys. Makes me feel a lot more confident about it. Once I've got it all working I'll report back about whether there are any real issues with the board.

Here is the board I'm using for the LEDs.

Hey, that Sound2light board--- is it (2) LED's total or (2) LED's per + / - set?

beneharris

2 per set. Each set of power takes a minimum of two leds per the build doc. Works really well.

I did a couple of short clips on my phone, in case anybody wanted to hear the difference between silicon and germanium in this. Sounds pretty neat. The octave on the germanium setting blooms really well, and you can tailor it even more with the diode switch.
