Hey all I've built a soft distortion unit from a guitar projects book I have it uses a single potentiometer listed as a - 4k7 min nor preset. All it seems to do is turn effect on with no variation in distortion nor variation in volume, just on or off. How can alter this so I can control volume? Change potentiometer for a greater value? (The distortion produced is like a thick fuzz, not soft as the name suggests-I don't mind sound)

Roll your guitar volume back. Got a schematic?

Pedal building is like the opposite of sex.  All the fun stuff happens before you get in the box.

What pickups you using with this?

What diodes did you use for D1 & D2?

Single coil pups. Germanium OA91 diodes

The pot should act as a volume control. Perhaps try another one, possibly somewhat bigger. For variation in distortion, you have to use a different strategy (change R4 for a pot, or use your guitar volume as already suggested).

Yeah this is the go. I changed main pot to 500k which helped volume issue then on your suggestion changed R4 to a 25k pot . I can now tweak both controls and get variations in tone. Thanks for your suggestions.
