as much as I generally prefer british english, the way you write doughnut - while it actually makes sense to write it this way - is just way too hard. Just in case this was about grammar ;)

if this wasn't about grammar, than I guess you didn't see this: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=27395.0

I thought "doughnut" was for the pastry and "donut" was a topological term.

As I mentioned in the other post, Homer does like donuts, but he *really* likes erotic cakes.

No, that's a coffee mug.

I understand Dough, I understand Do, but
what does it have to do with nuts?

Well, if you squint really hard:

No idea, really.

Originally "dough nuts" were small round balls of fried dough, like what we would now call a donut hole. Over time, tastes tended towards bigger = better, but they found out bigger balls of dough would mean the centers wouldn't actually cook. Mmmmm, raw dough....

So they made them toroidal instead. Nice even cooking.

And they don't emit as much magnetic radiation unless purple.

This thread reminds me of the first time I had a Krispy Kreme.
It was freshly baked and still warm.  It was as if the heavens opened and birds began singing.

They just recently re-opened one here in southern AZ. Still not a fan of the standard "poof" glazed donut, but I do enjoy their blueberry cake-style once or twice a year.
