Wierd (or not) tones and effects with pedals

Hello there,

I was listening to Echoes some days ago and I was wandering how Gilmour got that seagull effect. With a quick search on the web I found that he was using an wah connected in reverse and his tone knob to create a feedback (or something like that, exact instructions here http://www.gilmourish.com/?p=754).

Any way, I was wondering what other crazy sounds you can achieve with using or misusing guitar pedals and guitar controls. The above text is a pretty good example to what I'm looking to see in that post.

I also have my own (kinda) sound I like to mess around with while writting songs that I think I have read it somewhere and I'm copying but I can't remember where.
So, I use a silicon Fuzz Face I've built, to max fuzz, and at the bridge possition on my strat I roll the tone all the way to zero. This gives me an even more  dark and distorted fuzz sound than before with more low and mid frequencies. I don't remember if I had the same effect on the middle pickup.

I would like to hear your own tips to achieve wierd (or not) tones that you like to mess around.

Hmm... Weird sounds from unconventional pedal usage?  I can think of these off the top of my head.

Fiddling with the knobs on a delay pedal while playing.

Misbiasing a fuzz to the point that it produces a severely splattery gated sound.

Messing with runaway feedback in a delay.

Edit: Just thought of one more.  Putting two different octave effects in series.  I had great fun once with an OC-2 into a Brassmaster.

Edit 2:  Also, Klein Bottle.  Can run effects in series/parallel/circles.  Opens many doors to weird sounds through unconventionally routing of existing pedals.

I built that grind customs pt2399 delay (can't remember the name) with the modulation add-on ... guy I built it for stuck a voltage starve into the power supply for it and was getting all kinds of weirdness from it.

mixing crossover distortion (like the zvex machine) with fuzz or tremolo gets pretty weird

the note flipping (I don't have another good descriptor for it) settings of the fuzz factory

fun with EQ pedals (getting that lo-fi AM radio sound)

way too squashy compressors, way too sensitive noise gates for all the dynamic response trickery that you can muster

purposefully running the wah in front of the wrong type of fuzz

any kind of self oscillation is just great ... especially the kind that sets in the second you stop playing

beating the crap out of a fuzz pedal with a booster ... probably my favorite of Jack White's tricks, though he's hardly the first to do it.
