Hi All,

Need some advice on the Madbean Collosalus Flanger, i am finding it difficult to source a 9mm 500K reverse log Pot for the Sweep, and was wondering if a 9mm 500K linear pot could be used as a substitute.

Alternatively i was thinking of getting a 16mm C500K as an alternative with a small compromise on the aesthetics of the build :)

Appreciate any advice and guidance on this, thanks

Hi, I got mine from Small Bear but unfortunately, they were only open for ordering this past weekend only. If you can find a 12mm rev log pot that would probably fit better under the board.
A linear pot will work but the control will go from sort of slow to fastest at the last 10% of the knob travel. You can use a log (A) pot and reverse the wires and that will give you good control of speed but CW will be slow and CCW will be fast, the opposite of what it should be.

Hi Danfrank,

Thank you for the advice, I manage to get a 9mm G500K on eBay which is suppose to be a C500K, but the turns are sort of staggered to 40 turns, will test this on the board and see if it works. Have also ordered a 16mm C500K if the G500K doesn't work out,

Thanks again for your advice

You can also jumper a 100k resistor across legs 2 and 3 of a B500K pot. Check out this link:

Hey Bio77, I went with the G500k, and the pedal is working now, I have calibrated it and getting a flange. Will need to find tune it a bit more.

I actually biased my current lover based on one of your post where you mentioned the frequencies, it was very helpful.

Did you also have a record of the frequency's expected when biasing the collosaluls? Would be very helpful to fine tune.

Thanks

Sorry, that was a while ago.  Looking at the post I would guess ~40 kHz.

Hi

thanks for the information, this is very useful. My next build is the Dandy Horse echoflanger, the measurements on the site are very helpful. I think After that I'll retire from building anymore flangers!

Thanks again for your help

danfrank

Well, you may want to build one more after the Dandy Horse... Maybe.
