Hi guys, long time to post here.
My good old friend Ettore_M gave me as a present his amazing engraved Engineer's thumb compressor, check this marvelous build.
He did an outstanding job.

http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=11664.msg105300#msg105300

So I was thinking adding a blend knob to this great compressor, so I took JMK panner and put it with the compressor.
http://jmkpcbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Panner.pdf
Of course it didn't work as expected... :) so I started reading posts in the forum.
Everyone said that compressor has phase inversion and obviously we can't mix-blend different phase signals.
The result was volume drop and tone sucking.
After that I put an inverting amplifier before the volume control of the compressor so I can flip the phase 180 degrees.
The result was the same as before, in the middle position where is 50% wet 50% dry I had again volume drop and tone sucking.
Since now the phase is the same I am thinking there is probably an impedance issue.

Do I have to omit the inverting op-amp and put an emitter follower buffer after the compressor volume control? Any thoughts on that?

Hey mate,
in which pin are you getting 11kHz?
Build doc says in pins 2 and 4 you should get half the frequency oscillation.
If you are measuring other pins (5 or 6) you get the Fosc and not the clock frequency which is half the Fosc.
So probably I am imagine that your frequency on pins 2 and 4 is 5.5kHz.

Also clock frequency doesn't change depending on the voltage.
Even in 9v or 15v you should get the same frequency clock.

Hope it helps,
Panos.

I am gonna visit messe frankfurt this year.
Any others who are gonna go?
Maybe grab a beer together and talk nerdy pedal stuff...

Awesome video my friend and great playing!!! :D

Did you omit the D3?
Post all your new voltages (clock and bbd) if you can, including the transistors.

Open Discussion / Re: Layout for ad-9 delay?

I was working on this for quite a while.
The AD9 uses a 5 pin, 2 in 1 transistor package in the clock section, that I wasn't able to find.
I've subsequently redone the schematic using the clock section from the Boss DM2, but haven't redone my layout. I definitely want to have another go at this at some stage though. When/if I find the time....

I just saw your thread regarding the AD9 layout.
BBD delay's topology stage is pretty the same with most analog delays.
The only difference is the way the produce the clock frequency via clock and the BBD variations.
So to make your ad-9 schematic easier with less components and just change the clock section.
Use everything as your AD9 schematic, input stage-compression-filtering-BBD, redraw the clock section of the Aquaboy Dlx (without the vactrol, Depth pot and R56),
again use the same AD9 filtering-expansion-mixing-final stage and here you go.
You ve got the AD-9 schematic.

If you need any help just ask.

Cheers,
Panos.

Something odd is going on here probably....
Before going to the BBD section I would probably have a closer look on your compandor,
the compression (pin7 of IC2) is looking a little high, choose values of the voltage divider (R13 & R14) so that pin7 is around 7v as Brian and Scruffie suggested.
Also from your readings voltages the expansion section is a little low (pin 10 & 11) should be around 7v also.

Swap the resistors of the voltage divider and post your new voltages of the compandor only and then we are gonna examine the BBD section.

Introductions / Re: Greetings from Greece

Outstanding work mate and killer axe....
Welcome to the forum, also let you know that you aren't the only Greek here, Ettore_M and me are also fellow greek pedal addicts....
Now regarding the fuzz suggestion similar voiced to CTC is the Rust Bunny.
Jon did a group buy while ago and I think that he is gonna have some spare boars.

As always my man Rej outstanding build.
Keep up!!!!
Glad that you liked the JB fuzz face.

I am afraid Scruffie got it right again..... ;)
Try what Scruffie suggests and probably you will solve your issues.
Also when I built my aquaboy I used a tc1044  and a vactrol for the modulation and didn't have any issues.

Panos.

Thanks Panos, that's a great help.

Think R58 was causing me the headache!

Sounds like there are two approaches: jumper R58 and leave D1 in place or put a 1N5817 in R58 and remove D1?

Cheers!
Yeap you can choose between those two ways for polarity protection.
If I remember correct on my built I didn't have any issues with R58.
I suggest to eliminate any future problems do what Brian suggests.

Cheers,
Panos.

If you are using any MN30xx BBD chip you must omit D3.
Now regarding the PSU since you are going on 15v you must also leave off D2 (8.2v zener).
Now regarding Brian's document you should leave off D1 and you should put a 1n5817 into R58.
With this replacement 1n5817 is for polarity protection.

Cheers,
Panos.

Oh mate, there are a lot to see.
Maybe I will spend a day only checking those stores, if my wife let me.....
I will be staying near Alexandreplatz and I was thinking finding a nice place to have a beer and listen to live music.
As far now music tastes I don't have any preference, blues-jazz will be ok.

Thank you for this huge list mate.

Cheers.
