Tech Help - Projects Page / Two kingslayer questions
September 18, 2013, 02:28:32 AM
First: I bought a tle2074 ic for my kingslayer. I think or at least I thought that this ic would work. Any thoughts?

Second: can I use my standard testing rig or do I have to wire the switch for the buffer if I want to test it out?

Open Discussion / First successful build!

I finally got my first circuit completed, an ego driver. I screwed several times, had problems constructing a "basic" testing rig, but persevered and got it all working.

I am pretty happy about all of this. Hopefully boxing it up goes smoother than everything else.

Tech Help - Projects Page / Ego driver led question.
September 14, 2013, 09:00:53 PM
I have been trying to troubleshoot an ego driver that doesn't work. When I test the resistance with a dmm one of the led's works and the other doesn't.

Additionally, the audio probe on the test rig stops carrying signal at the ic, but I have reflows the solder on the socket (with the ic out, of course) and swapped the tl072 for a tl082 and nothing changes.

I have no pictures, sorry. Any ideas?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Mouser Question
September 09, 2013, 07:08:25 PM
Could someone with more knowledge than me go to mouser and check this project for me: 2b63efa9a9

I think it should be fine to order for the JMK Hoodoo Drive, but I wanted to check first. (project at http://www.jmkpcbs.com/JMK_PCBs/Store_files/Hoodoo%20Drive.pdf)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Help! Treble Booster!
September 07, 2013, 07:30:38 PM
Hello again, tech help genuises. I recently built, or, rather, attempted to build a brian may treble booster generously supplied by rullywowr. (build doc here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73135424/Brian%20May%20Treble%20Booster/Brian%20May%20Treble%20Booster%20Build%20Doc%20v1.1.pdf) I did something wrong, naturally, and I'm trying to troubleshoot this build. Here are some pictures of the completed circuit. The testing rig output probe works at c1, but nowhere else. help?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Testing rig problems
September 07, 2013, 01:20:09 PM
Hello oh patient madbeaners.

A couple of days ago, I put together a basic testing rig as described by jkochura. I used it to test a ego driver, and the pedal didn't work. Today I used it to test a treble booster, and it didn't work. So I tried to test my testing rig, by hooking up the "in" and "out" clips, and IT didn't work, or pass the guitar signal at all. I have an audio probe attached to the output jack, and it works fine and passes signal perfectly.

What the heck?

Tech Help - Projects Page / Two Dumb Questions

1. Can I ground my test rig ground to the sleeve of one of the jacks?

2. Are there any "debugging for dummies" threads floating around?

How Do I? Beginner's Paradise. / I suck at DIY

I am not the only person who feels this way, right?

I tried to make a green bean and failed horribly. Probably not a good first project. I got a better soldering iron, went slower and more carefully making an ego driver, and it doesn't work either.

I even tried to "rock it before I boxed it" but my tests just show that it doesn't work. At first it passed signal, but the circuit didn't work, but now it does nothing.

I ordered the stuff to make a testing rig, which will go in the repurposed green bean enclosure, so I am going to try to test the ego driver before I throw it out.

I am a little frustrated. Should I try something simpler, like the byoc confidence boost or a fuzz before I do anything else? Is failure just part of the process?

General Questions / Battery Snap?
May 24, 2013, 07:25:44 PM
Does the battery snap in the standard wiring diagram just function as an isolated ground?

Please advise.

Open Discussion / Mammoth Problems

Hello Madbeanians.

I recently ordered a whole bunch of stuff from Mammoth, and I ordered some enclosures in both orders. They didn't get the size or drilling pattern right on the enclosure from the first order, and sent me unpainted enclosures on the second order.

They haven't responded to an email, and no one picked up the phone when I just called. Is this normal? Are they just bad at filling enclosure orders?
