Hey Brian, is the Collosalus coming back?

Mos def. I will get more Collosalus and Current Lover on the next order. Just deciding if I want to fully update to my latest parts library. Probably will.

On another note: I am a debugging madman! Solved a big problem on one of the new projects today. Held me up for two days.

is there any chance that i could get another set of PCB's for it?
it says "sold out" on the order page but i was just hoping that you might have an extra set.

Unfortunately, no. I don't have an ETA yet on when I will have more, although I do plan to continue to offer the project.

I'm puzzled about the lack of continuity. The trace that connects those two points on the main PCB runs along the right edge on the top layer. Here are the traces without the tPlace layer so it's more clear. So, it is possible that there could be some nick or imperfection on that trace causing the lack of continuity. I don't see any obvious damage on the PCB but it's hard to tell from one photo.

Since you were able to get bypass with a jump wire, then the next thing to do is audio probe the effect path like I mentioned earlier. This may clue us into why the signal is not getting back to the bypass switch and then the output. Other than that, maybe a quick teardown to look at the underside of the PCB for any possible solder issues, bridges, etc.

What about testing continuity from the daughter (foot switch) board to the main board?  Maybe there's a bum lead or short.
i tried that but everything tests fine, but the output jack's hot has no continuity to the stomp switch,

The three circled areas here should have continuity. If you have none from jack to switch, try checking the two spots circled on the main PCB.

by the way, i appreciate all the efforts and responses in helping me try to find the issue. i'd really like to get it working.

Sure thing. We'll get it solved. My suggestion now is to audio probe. Specifically, probe the output pins of the ICs in order according to the schematic. We need to find out where the audio signal is dropping off.

here's one:

This looks pretty correct. Couple things I cannot quite tell:

Is R10 220k? I can't make out the color bands.
Ri18 looks like it might have gotten a bit charred, but again a little hard to tell from the pic.

Can you provide a pic and some voltages?

I also hate the size constraint in Eagle, but I'm typically able to work within the confines.

I must've missed the news - Eagle is going away in 2026?

Yeah the free version has a lot of constraints like max board dimensions, part placement, layer count, etc. I can see why people are embracing KiCad and Diptrace

Sadly yeah, it's all getting rolled up into Fusion 360. From what little I've looked into it, it's somehow worse than Creative Cloud...

I had another conversation about eagle , maybe here, maybe ppcb, maybe on a irc chat where someone pointed this out: It just seems like Autodesk wasn't interested in Eagle. They just wanted to shut down a competitor, since not long after they made a multi billion offer to buy Altium Designer... they did that to SoftImage, and one other I can't remember, just to make sure Maya and 3DSMax didn't have competition. Bleh.

I'm still pissed about Softimage. Esp. since they won't even offer a legacy version to purchase a permanent license, of course. I did have an educational license for XSI 5, but I think it had a dongle.

Does this mean that all projects with, for example, two pots and a toggle switch (plus foot switch, jacks, etc.), will share the same drilling pattern? So if we build one and get tired of it or whatever, we can repurpose the enclosure without any modifications?

No, because each project will have a unique number of controls. But they all go on a per-defined grid.

The idea here is to have one master template for the Tayda drill service so for any given project you can just adjust that layout to fit the specific number of controls needed. I'll be documenting this in depth so it will be easy for anyone to do. Also, because I am personally not wanting to do my own drilling too much anymore! I'd rather pay Tayda a few bucks to drill my enclosures than deal with going out to the garage and mis-drilling my own stuff haha.

There are a couple projects that do break the design rule a bit but those will have their own paper and Tayda drill files.

I would look for obvious noise sources in the setup - room lights, breadboards, jump wiring, the particular wall socket you are using (some can be quite dirty for audio), etc. It's possible the noise will go away once it's PCB built and everything is shielded in an enclosure. Also, stick a couple 470uF caps and a 100n film cap in parallel to decouple the main power supply if you haven't already.

Also, maybe disconnect any pedals in the loops one by one to see if the noise level changes.

Just curious if there is any reasoning behind designing the standard series exclusively for the 1590b rather than both it and 125b? Some folks seem a tad hung up on top jacks.

A number of the circuits I'm working on for the series simply won't fit in both configurations. Some would, for sure. But then they wouldn't be "standardized" for one pre-defined hardware layout. I've got a pretty big hunch that when folks start building some of these projects they'll find them easy and enjoyable. At least, I hope so because I put in a tremendous amount of thought and planning into them, haha.
I was just thinking, that if it fits into a 1590b, a 125b is bigger in every dimension, so what's to stop you from using the larger size? Sorry, if I'm being dense.

Not dense at all! 125B requires extra space at the top end to fit the jacks and you have to make compromises to offer both options for 125B and 1590B simultaneously in a single PCB layout.

Frankly, I already did that in 2020 with a bunch of projects and sometimes that required a mix of 16mm snd 9mm pots. I dont think thats the best approach anymore. This series is about focusing on a specific layout standard for 1590B with minimal wiring and different bypass options. And, also because I want to make it easy for people that want to use the Tayda drilling and UV print service at the same time. These weren't even options just a few years ago.

Looks great! And, good on you for sticking it out and solving the bugs :)

Yeah, I had thought after the fact that there may not have been good solder connections on those pins. I'm glad you got it sorted.

I'm concerned about what you said about the patches though. I'll check back on my HEX file to see if anything changed. I don't recall ever doing that but it's easy enough to program an extra EEPROM and pop it in my build. When did you order the HT2?
