Title: Bass overdrive?
Post by: elenore19 on January 10, 2018, 01:02:41 AM
Hey guys/gals--
Looking for a good bass overdrive to build. Maybe a current Madbean project with a bass mod? Any suggestions?
Looking for a crisper overdrive tone. Not round/fuzzy.
Thanks guys.

Guitarpcb or jmkpcbs both have a great one. I use the byoc bass overdrive for my overdrive.

My favorite bass overdrive has always been the Ibanez PD7. There's a schematic here: http://www.freeinfosociety.com/media/pdf/4086.pdf, but as far as I know, no one has made any pcbs for it.

Other bass overdrives have never really impressed me. I like the classic guitar circuits on bass- TS, Klon, Rat. The OCD is also great.

Runoffgroove Ginger!

It's made for bass but I don't know about that. I love it on guitar.

Crisp/ not round sounds like you want something like an OCD or a distortion like a Rat.

However, the JMK Bass Drive can get quite crisp. It's a straightforward build.

The Ginger is also good, I used mine more as anpreamp as it was a very subtle OD. Boost in front of the Ginger brings it into better OD territory. The amp it's based on sounds great for cleaner guitar and bass tones, so it's no wonder it works well for bass and guitar.

The Valvecaster is great for bass too.
