Title: Aristocrat Volume Question
Post by: non-reverse on June 11, 2012, 07:27:39 PM
Just wondering if there is a way to get more volume from the Aristocrat.  I know I can add a larger gain pot to get more gain but I'm just hoping to make the thing louder.  Seems like I have to have it dimed to get just above unity.  I'm using a single sided V4 Aristocrat.  Thanks again for all the help.

Are you in overdrive or distortion mode?  I get unity at about 1-2:00 with the Drive at noon on my yellow (low gain) channel in overdrive mode.  Distortion mode (dipswitch two on) will drop the volume a bit further, and I would recommend the high gain mod if you intend to use it.

If you really have to dime it to get unity gain in overdrive mode, there's probably something wrong with your build.  If it's the same on both channels, my first guess would be a wrong value on a component.  Tell us more about your build -- any subs or mods?

None of mine have ever had a lot of output, so yeah, around 1-2 o'clock should be unity.

One cheap trick: switch the volume pot to 100kB instead. Or use 250k.

One other possible solution: increase the 220k (R7 and R18). Not too much...maybe 300k.

Thanks for the tips, I think this is a great sounding circuit and I may have misspoke when I used the term "dimed".   ;)

In any event, I'll try some of your suggestions.  Thanks as always.

Currently struggling with the same on a LyRock clone build. But the resistor #s that match up with the analogman gutshot and the LyRock dont' match up with any schematic I see on line. is there a way to properly compare?
