This is a fun pedal and will get boxed up for sure.

I was battling with another build of mine and decided to populate this to clear the mind a bit and next thing I knew it, I was firing it up. Played with it for about 45-hour and it was fun. From subtle to extreme chorus effect.

Build Reports / Switch Monkey (FS3X)
February 21, 2016, 06:32:43 AM
My father needed a foot switch for his Digitech Trio so I decided to make him one. I did a reverse etch for him on it to make it look a little more classy than the stock FS3X foot switch. 2 diodes and 3 switches later he got this pedal. Really helps when wanting to change "parts" and styles on the fly.

Anyone else notice that Sweetwater carries Strymon stuff now? This might be the time I get myself a Mobius.

Anyone see this thing yet?

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SoulPress

Mini wah & volume pedal & expression pedal.

When I first seen it I thought, that is a cool little pedals with some cool features. Also, if a China maker has these cool small enclosures, how long until we can buy them.

What do you guys think?

New Tool Day

I finally got my hands on a new table saw. I was using a friends but he needed it back.

I got a Kobalt KT1015 from Lowes. I really needed something I could take out and use but then put out of the way easily. This fit the bill since it stored nicely and was sturdy when setup. Got it home and tossed a Diablo 60 tooth blade (D1060X) I picked up from HomeDepot and tested it on some birch plywood. It made some really clean cuts and worked out great.

Time to get working on some jigs. I hope to have a new router in a few weeks also. Will have a little shop in my garage when Im done.

Quote(CNN)Riley B. King, the legendary guitarist known as B.B. King, whose velvety voice and economical, expressive style brought blues from the margins to the mainstream, died Thursday night.

He was 89.

His daughter, Patty King, said he died in Las Vegas, where he announced two weeks ago that he was in home hospice care after suffering from dehydration.

Here lies a legend.

RIP BB

Open Discussion / Wobulator 3P4T Switches Artwork
April 17, 2015, 08:23:01 AM
I am laying out my Wobulator build using AlanP's layout and I was wondering of those that have built it already, Do you still have the artwork with all the LFO wave symbols and shapes? I am having a heck of a time to get them to line up with the chicken heads I want to use and mine just simply look crappy. I suck at line art and do everything in Photoshop at 300 DPI.. so drawing triangles and what not is not fun at all.

Help a brother out..

I have all the other artwork done except the 3P4T switches artwork.

PS: You have the right to call me lazy.. I accept it and hang my head in shame.

Open Discussion / Alexander Pedals Amnesia Delay
April 09, 2015, 05:34:47 PM

QuoteThe Amnesia pedal brings back the warm and murky sounds of vintage analog delay units.  Each mode of the Amnesia is carefully tweaked by our sonic scientists to provide the tone and response of a specific vintage bucket brigade device (BBD.)

The switch on the thing is what made it pop out for me.

MN3005
SAD4096
MN3208

I wonder what chip they are using to emulate the different modes.

Not to bad priced either.

Open Discussion / Something my wife made for me
March 20, 2015, 08:00:49 AM
Wanted to share what my wife made me for my office. The white balance came out looking like crap in my office/music room/cave but they are very vibrant in color and just pop on the wall. I simply love the way they came out. Now if I can just get here to paint some enclosures for me. lol

Open Discussion / Painted headstock decal removal?
March 17, 2015, 07:56:38 PM
Anyone have any experience removing a decal on a painted head stock (Japanese Fender) of a guitar? I figure if I wet sand gradually it should come off but I wanted to see if I am missing a better way of doing it.

Cody

Edit: I just realized this would have been better in the "Guitar Building" forum. Sorry Brian.

I am interested in hearing about this.

I will obviously start off.

I have never built a pedal that uses a battery. I would have to look up how to wire a stereo 1/4" jack if I ever did. lol

I used to be a huge Rage Against the Machine fan back in the day and a buddy shared this video to me and said "Remember when we seen them when they first started?". So I was excited to see a live video to bring back some memories... this is what I got.

I know its a bit old but It still made me laugh so hard I was crying... maybe the lack of sleep.

Open Discussion / Strymon MultiSwitch anounced
February 17, 2015, 08:26:06 PM
Anyone else get this email about this MultiSwitch? Look pretty cool and if I hit a HUGE wall of fail with my MIDI pedal project I may get this to tie me over. Secretly that's not true as I really want to MIDI functions for my other pedals also but this is still a cool deal.

Build Reports / Dirtbaby finally done
January 31, 2015, 01:58:11 AM
Seems like I have been waiting forever for my knobs to come in, it was only 3 days but it felt like FOREVER.

This is by far my favorite sounding PT based delays that I have built and the 2nd runner up is a 1776 Effects Multiplex (They really are 2 different beasts since the multiplex is a great tape emulation). It really is the modulation that sells this for me as it sounds so lush and adds a whole other dimension to the delays.

The artwork may be familiar since it was used on another pedal I did a year ago but I loved it so much I really wanted to do a pedal that would be a staple on my board with it. The original artwork is from a bands cover art that I found on Google Images. I did a reverse etch and painted it with the Rust-Oleum 7250830 Metallic Spray and used a Dupli-Color clear coat. The knobs I used are silver aluminum knobs from Eagle Plastic Devices bought from Mouser. Eagle Plastic Devices make some great plastic & aluminum knobs.

The 3PDT breakout board was made in Diptrace and is available here if you wish to etch it for yourself.

No time to talk! Need to play with this some more.

Build Reports / Three Eyed Cat
January 26, 2015, 10:20:19 AM
This is Stomptown's Pennyroyal Chorus and man do I love it. I needed a chorus on my board pretty bad and have tried a few I did not like. I decided the next one to build was going to be a MN3007 based and found the Pennyroyal. Its a great modded Small Clone and sounds better that the 2 older Small Clones I have owned over the years.

I did a reverse etch from a image I snagged from Google Images. I painted the enclosure with a root beer sparkle brown found at a hobby store. I am also trying out a few different clear coats in a can and will have a write up on them soon on my blog. I have also been trying out a bunch of 3PDT daughter boards and used one of Rullywow's boards on this build. Worked perfectly and kept everything very clean.

Open Discussion / Switching between ICs
January 22, 2015, 08:11:52 AM
I am working on a project that I would like to wire up a toggle to switch from a LM301 ot a LM308. Is it as easy as tying the pins together and just do the switching of V- & V+  to supply power to the chip I want to use? I have never done anything like this and before I kill a few chips I thought I would ask.

I swore I seen a Beavis Audio project that he stacked 4 ICs and bent the pins out for the power supplies and used that to switch with. Or did I dream this all up?

Build Reports / Doubel Ganger
January 16, 2015, 03:41:09 AM
Finally got this boxed up... I love this thing. This is the Gigahearts FX Doubel Ganger. It can be subtle or mad crazy with a twiddle of a few knobs. The phaser sound perfect and so fat and takes pedals in front of it very well. I am really happy how the art work came out on this one. The enclosure is a 1790NS and I did a reverse etch with metallic red paint.

Build Reports / This pedal is Not kosher
January 14, 2015, 07:25:00 AM
This is Brian's Pork Chop Suey Cider that I etched and populated. Its a great pedal and has some really nice OD to play with. The clean preamp blend is also a really nice touch and makes me wonder why I never bought a Pork Loin over the years.

When I first populated this I was waiting for the 2N2484's that never showed up (Still fighting a refund from a surplus shop for that) and I stuck some 2n2222a's and they actually sounded great. I did want to hear if the 2N2484's made an difference is sound so I found that Mouser does carry them. Once I swapped out the transistors I really could not tell a whole lot of difference. The 2N2222a's sounded a bit hotter but with playing full chords I was happier with the 2N2484's and stuck with them.

I kept the pork theme and did a reverse etch of some pig art I found on Google Images. I also went with a metallic pink for the pig theme.

Insides are pretty straight forward and I used a Grind Customs 3PDT board to keep it clean. The top mounted jack just barely fit but it works.
