Open Discussion / Re: turntable troubleshoot
September 03, 2025, 08:59:54 AM
Thanks!

Schematic is joined and here's the link to he service manual:
http://djaaz.free.fr/Hitachi-HT354-tt-sm.pdf

The turntable has strong fluctations of speed (33rpm +/- 2%)

What i did so far:
Clean the mechanical bits, lubricate the spindle ball bearing.
Changed all electrolycs (except the 4,7uf / 160V)
Changed the three sc458 transistors and replaced them with 2sc1518 (saw a youtube videos where it seemed to solve the specific issue)

In the service manual, they indicate that speed should be fixed by turning the trimpot on the board to get  3V on pin 10 of the ICO1. What i have there is a fluctuating voltage that is somewhere around 3V.

My go to move when i don't know what i'm doing is to change everything that could be at fault and i was about to change the rest of the transistors and try to find this obsolete IC but i there might be something smarter to do than to overspend on this old thing.

Aprreciate any help, guys.

Hi guys,
I've been fighting with a direct drive turntable almost as old as me that is suffering from fluctuating speed and it's been kicking my ass.
It's time that people who actually understand electronics take a look at it.
Any chance you guys want to help me with that?
Before i upload photos and schematic (hitachi ht-356), i thought i'll ask.

Quote from: lars on May 10, 2025, 12:58:10 AMThe days of "the only way to make music is plugging directly into a vintage amp with a guitar nobody can afford" are over.
Deal with it.
I absolutely agree. In fact, i would be as bold as calling these days as non existing.
Text written by chatgpt can no longer be recognised either by human or by algorithm.
As far as suno goes, the voice along is a tell for a minimally trained ear, but that removed i would not bet that i would be able to recognise AI over human, what i'm saying as a humble music composer is that when i tried to use it as a tool, it did not yet work for me. The fact that it might work better for the larger audience than human work is another matter and i would agree that music composer making a living are definely a thing of the past.

Suno, as a piece of tech is immensely impressive. I fed him some audio with a odd time sig that it used and must have transformed to a virtual instrument somehow sounding close to the original guitar sound.
But ultimately it took a crappy sounding piece of music i liked and made a glorious sounding song i thoroughly disliked.
As a piece of tech impressive, as a music creator not there yet in my opinion.
But what do i know, i still don't own any bitcoin.

Pretty cool actually. Three tubes: 2 12ax7 and one 12au7 to replace two "traditional" powertubes, that's really fun, full of tube dynamic.
To be honest, in use it's not very different than the 5w amps that flourished here and there: too loud to get the goods in a practice room.
However, probably bc of the push/pull conf; it's a bit less acid while having even less bass.
Very interesting recording amp that you're not afraid to abuse as a power tube change will cost you a 20 at most.

Hi all,
So recentrly i've been exploring the world of amp & pedal capture. Bought a Tonex, a few neuraldsp plugins, explored AIDAx and NAM and came to the conclusion that tube amps are things from the past.
Who knew?
So i bought a new one, stuck in my 8 square meter office between a twin reverb, a boss katana, a h&k triamp and a Victory Krake, i present to you the Marshal DSL1. A 1W tube amp powered by a 12AY7 used in a push/pull configuration.

It's awesome, loud, does not produce any sort of relevant bass. Awesome.

And here in context, a silly thing i toyed with to test ezdrummer. left is the marshall with a heavily gained tubescreamer in front and right is the amp with nothing at all.
recorded with the cheap royer clone from harley benton.

Build Reports / Re: Ekano DIY Midi Controller

It sure did. then, i built probably half a dozen fuzzes this year and as no modeler can capture fuzz for bananas, seems i'll do just as much next year bc i need every each one of them.
That being said. i really recommand taking a look at https://mod.audio/ download the mod desktop app and try it on your pc, mac whatever it is that you use to mainly browse what's remaining of the web.

This thing is really fun.

Thanks for sharing.
I was just starting to investigate arduino based controller for a mod.audio raspberry Pi based modeler/multi pedal. I'll need 4 pots and 3 footswitches.  Yet another world to explore.

A zendrive, can't remember the name of the board.
Tonex, aida & nam models in the same zip.

By the way, you can do your own capture with Aida & Neural amp modeler, they both provide google colab notebooks.

Quote from: gordo on October 11, 2024, 11:14:08 PMThe weird part is that modulation effects and delay are out so it kinda gets limited to distortion.  I have the original Tonex capture box and got some cool caps of my Traynor TS25.  It's a cool tech and I enjoy playing stuff that people upload but haven't had a chance to record anything so it doesn't get used outside of the fun of auditioning other peeps gear.

I like the idea but haven't leaned into using it enough.

Still if you could do generic pedal captures, that would be pretty cool.  Not sure how that would work but a great idea.

You might look at the mod dwarf by mod audio. You get the "best" of both world, you can use aida or nam to capture your amp & pedals and then use programmed modulation and cab sim to get an all in one.
the brother in law with his challenged back traded his pedalboard for the dwarf, only kept the whammy.
Plus, as you can build pedalboard and snapshots within a pedalboard, he found himself focusing on his fingers rather than his feet.
Obviously, looking at his shoes, i found the entire thing a bit sad but to be fair, i did not feel that he sounded any different.

I'm still not completely satisified with my capture process. The reamp box level setup is not plug & play. The audio level output is a bit below the guitar level that i was using to test it. As it was humbuckers, i sort of decided not to correct it.
Neural amp modeler and AIDA are both free & opensource capture & modeler.

First capture is the MOAR which i dearly love and should definitely not be forgotten.

So i bought my way into the future to see if i like it there.
Also bc it was cheap enough.
Long story short: if i don't need to be near silent or travel in a pocket plane, it loses most of its interest.
It is still impressive for some pedal capture and helpful for the rehearsing guy tired of carrying his weight in gear.
If any interest, i'll post some clips of the real and captured pedal.

Which lead to a question: @madbean, any issue with capturing & sharing madbean pedals?
