Audio/Video Demos / Schu-Tone Hologram Delay
May 08, 2023, 11:37:18 AM
Here is a neat little analog delay in a compact 1590A from the one and only Schu-Tone! This thing sounds really great and has that crunchiness to it that I like in analog delays.

Nothing like describing sound, like dancing about architecture, right?

Audio/Video Demos / Schu-Tone Cavalier Chorus
April 24, 2023, 04:31:47 PM
Gentlemen today I posted a video featuring the Schu-tone Cavalier Chorus. This mini chorus is housed in a 1590a somehow.... It's unreal. This thing sounds so amazing and has been on my board since this video, i love it! For the intro I recreated Rooster by AIC and transcribed Layne and Jerrys vocal harmonies. Using the chorus and a few pedals for distortion I was able to make some great sounds.

Let me know what you think.

What is Destiny Behemoth? I have no idea, it was another name my son came up with and I saved it in my phone. What is a Behemothing? I really have no idea but dang if it doesn't sound like something with multiple layers of bacon.

Today is Destiny Behemoth Part Two, this was supposed to come out last week but two things happened; First, I didn't like the video, so I scrapped it. The other reason is I had some other business come up (nice weather) and I had to attend to some urgent meetings (ride my motorcycle to eat BBQ).

Here is a fresh edit and some lovely pictures to go all in on my all in one practice unit. The pcbs are designed by the incredible @cooder and the headphone design came from the genious mind of @Chuck D. Bones

We are going to make them available to anybody who wants one and I will make up some build docs for every one.

https://youtu.be/3Lx2Y5zKFtw

I made five of these and really want to show them off to you all! First up is the man that made it happen, Stephan from BigNoise! In a fiery red to match his studio wall in his beautiful new home!

Next is the great professor that designed the headphone amp for it @Chuck D. Bones He got this really nice Black one that has a lot of depth in the character.

Here is one for the wonderful @fig This was the end result of the poll we had titled "Which color is Fig"

He is purple and he is awesome and so kind to all of us. The purple was a happy accident as it dried weird in the testing of the color matching and I went with it. It looks super slimy!

Here is the one going to the Pedals for Ukraine.

All of those were drilled and primed and painted after the first prototype (mine) was done. I used my air brush to put a faded background and then sealed it with a spray matte clear coat. All of the colors were color matched to the knobs and once that cured I started lettering them all which took about three days. The red one was the one to get the attempted faded lettering but scrapped the idea as it took forever and the result, while looking cool, was not worth the few hours it took....

Since the airbrush idea came up after I made mine I was way to lazy to take it apart and spray it and redo the lettering so I just painted the slime guy on there. I also learned a thing or two about double checking my measurements when drilling a complex unit with jacks, I had to sand down my lid to close it.

Here is mine, in Deans favorite color.

Audio/Video Demos / Destiny Behemoth Part One
April 03, 2023, 09:03:46 AM
Today is a day that will live in infamy... Most likely not but I have been dying to present this to everyone here. This is the Destiny Behemoth! This is my practice rig, my travel rig, my recording rig, my testing rig, my all in one love letter to the DIY community. I truly love this thing and am really hoping people dig the video. Now about the video, I recently learned how to make transparent images and splice them into my video and I am 39 today but still 13 at heart. I also have a nine year old that loves it any time I say the word nuts or balls, last Wednesday he was home from school and was with me when I filmed it which is why there is some input from the peaNUT gallery.

On to Destiny Behemoth!

Also I am going to put this up for Auction for the Autism Awareness challenge. I am hoping I am not too late but time management has never been my personal strong suit.

Audio/Video Demos / Eliasson Guitars Goldie Guitar
February 20, 2023, 10:49:16 AM
Here is the pinnacle of the dkpedals channel, the frothy cream that can rise only after vigorous work. A video so good it may even burn your eyes or give you heart palpitations due to the flashes and bangs and hard fisting that is going on. Open up your eye holes for some serious meowsical entertainment.

https://youtu.be/f_32QrgMRK0

In all seriousness Paul Eliasson was kind enough to send me a guitar to try out and I offered to make a video and then this bag of insanity ensued and it turned out better than I could have imagined. I had a lot of fun making this video and am so proud of my singing debut!

It is an all mahogany body starcaster 335 hybrid that just sounds amazing.

Audio/Video Demos / Schu-Tone Gargantua Fuzz and Boost
February 06, 2023, 08:37:41 AM
Here is another friend of dkpedals video for your ear-holes. The Schu-tone Gargantua 2-in-1 Fuzz and Boost! This is my second video playing Schu-Tone pedals and this one does not disappoint at all. I am running it into my KT66 equipped JTM45 and with using the Eliasson Guitars Goldie model guitar and just cranking it up. I hope it comes across because this was a blast to make.

I liked the photo shoot with all of plushies that keep ending up in here. This house is just a zoo sometimes especially with our newest dog a tiny 8 month old Beaglier named Ruby

Audio/Video Demos / Schu-Tone Whirlpool Spring Reverb
January 16, 2023, 08:07:00 AM
Here is a little demo of the Schu-Tone Spring Reverb, Dan was kind enough to send me some pedals to shoot demos for and this is the first of many. I am using an Eliasson Guitars Goldie into a Chinook Amplification JTM 45 type thing with the Reverb in the effects loop. The Chinook Amp is my first amp build that came from the Metro Amps kits he used to do back in like 06 and since busting it out for some of these Schu-tone videos I feel like it will be a player for awhile.

This is a great sounding spring reverb and having the select able mix is such a brilliant idea.

Check out Pauls Guitars they are really neat.

Here is a link to the really cool reverb pedal.

Audio/Video Demos / MBP Pork Barrel Chorus
January 02, 2023, 12:57:45 PM
Here is my first video of 2023! I am happy that it is a build with a neat back story and it turned out really well. It is a clone of the Boss CE-2 and produces a chorus sound that I really enjoy, especially when paired with a fuzz.

Audio/Video Demos / Dan Boost BC108 PTP Boost
December 05, 2022, 08:44:32 AM
Here is my point to point boost build report and play through. I love this pedal for when I want that kind of screaming Super Reverb sound but just through my Allen Accomplice. It hammers the front end of the amp and is really biting and cleans up beautifully. I built a Dam Red Rooster boost, I believe, on a breadboard and started swapping things around tinkering around with it using my SG and this was the end result. I wanted a way to try and use up this bag of 200 BC 108s I have had forever, so I thought it would be really cool to try to come up with a simple boost and then pair it with a great BC108 fuzz and make a dual pedal. That pedal is built and in this video and could not have happened without Cooder, I will be filming a video on that soon.

Audio/Video Demos / Madbean Wavelord

Here is a demo of my wavelord, this is a cool tremolo and as I am not a big trem user I really dug it. Let me know what you think.

Audio/Video Demos / MadBean Glasshole
October 10, 2022, 08:19:17 AM
Here is my latest video and it has one that has taken quite a bit of effort to get here but is worth it. I had so many, I want to say technically difficulties, but they were just bone head errors trying to make this video and I still didn't get it 100%. This is such a cool pedal and with the wavelord as a tap controller I was getting some wild sounds, unfortunately I lost my notepad with the info on the waveforms and everything....

With that said I think this is my best video so far and I am really happy with it. I updated the build report section to make it more informative after some criticism on Youtube about the build report content. Let me know what you all think

Open Discussion / NGD!! Epiphone Casino
August 10, 2022, 10:02:05 AM
Last year I was kicking around getting an Epiphone Casino and then after watching the Get Back documentary I knew I had to get one. I ordered this in December and didn't end up getting it until late April. I did the whole unboxing, first impressions, then demo and a months later review. I just finished up the edit on this and think it turned out pretty good.

I have been having a helluva time with editing software and my PC, I just switched to Lumafusion and been editing on my ipad and love it. For the first time since I started this whole youtube channel I actually have a few videos in the chamber.

Build Reports / #vfefriday The Maxx Dragon
July 15, 2022, 12:07:31 PM
Happy Friday fellas! One of the last of my vfe sps dragons was built up and sent out to a very kind fella and instead a boring old dragon he requested a comic book character The Maxx. As some of you may know this is easily my favorite overdrive and love when this pedal gets in the hands of people and they feel the same way, this one just happens to look cool too.

I have been asked this a few times by viewers of the channel and decided to make a video on how I smd solder with just a standard solding iron. Hope you all like it and have a great weekend!

This weeks late video is all about my long decent into madness, also know as painting guitar pedals. I really wanted to showcase my progression as a pedal builder and talk about some of the methods I use to achieve my results.

I have builds from the earliest BYOC kit days to single sided boards from Haberdasher and Madbean builds to PedalPCB to VFE and Effectslayouts. I really had fun digging out some of the classic builds and getting to know them again. The Moodring sounds as glorious today as it did so many moons ago when it was built.

So grab your favorite beverage and/or smoking utensil and waste 20 minutes with me.

A mate asked if I ever built this that he would like to try it, so I ordered up the board and got to melting solder. This is a pretty cool loud as hell fuzz that has quite a bit of octave in it. This video is a super quick edit and I like the longer format so every little sound is covered, plus I just had a shitload of fun playing and recording so I went with it.

The artwork comes from a fella, James Koening aka Freelance Fridge. I found his website a number of years ago and took screen shots and saved images to aspirationally paint when I got better. I finally tracked the dude down on IG and can give him the credit he deserves, he is an incredible artist and a huge inspiration.

Without further ado the GRUMBLE SKUZZ!

Here is a really special video showcasing a really cool build from a friend and fellow forum member, thewintersoldier. We are both comic nerds and pedal builders and he graciously gifted this to me. I feel pretty honored to have builders I admire pedals in the studio and hopefully do it a little justice. A little while back he started an appreciation thread and like many of us here, I really appreciate everyone of you. Anybody that has reached out and sent emails or just taken the time to watch a video, it truly means the world to me. May the fourth be with you.

Here is the Dragon gift for Chris                      Here is a different dragon some crazy dude got, right Cooder?

And here is the video!
