latching vs. momentary DPDT switches

I have built most of the pedals that use a momentary DPDT toggle switch and I'm looking for a latching one for the next build.

How do I distinguish when I order?  I saw another thread that said that momentary switches were surrounded by parentheses?

Hmmm, A momentary toggle switch doesn't stay in position like a latching switch and I don't think I've ever seen an effect with a momentary toggle other than the stomp footswitch. Are you sure the toggles you've used have been momentary?

Sometimes it can be hard to tell and you may have to dig into the datasheet. The smallbear link you posted is a good example of this. The smallbear parentheses are inaccurate but the description lists a workalike Mouser/Mountain switch 10TC260

It is true that parentheses denote momentary switching. But... you can see it here in the datasheet for the given Mountain workalike that model does not have them. So the smallbear switch is latching even tho it has parentheses. Always go with the datasheet

@Aentons - thanks for the reply.  I got some new switches on order and you helped clear this up.  If I'm understanding you right, that when I read the data sheet the ones w/ parentheses are the models that will be momentary, indicated by the default status in parentheses?  So I want a couple 10TC265s . . .

And yep, I've got a couple of pedals that have momentary DPDT toggle switches. I think I got them for the parasite builds to trigger the LFO for modulation.

That is correct. Switches can also be momentary in one position and latching in another The 240 and 270 show how that would be notated
