Identifing NPNs

So my dad had a bag of NPN and PNP transistors.

Is there any way to identify these? At least to know what type. There are no markings on them at all.

I use one of these component testers which will give you type and pinout as well as Hfe reading and leakage. Handy to have and not expensive. There's lots of other component testers out there, more flash and expensive ones too.
