String ringer advice / help

I have built up the string ringer (ring stinger) from the V3 build doc here: http://www.aronnelson.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=47423

I've got some fantastic octave fuzz happening, and i can modulate it with the tremolo in some settings.
I can also here the PWM "working? that is I can hear the wave shapes, and can rate / pitch / depth.
I'm not getting any modulation of the guitar signal though.

this is by far and away the biggest project i've attempted.
I used the following substitutions:
LED/LDR - vactrol vtl5c3
s1+2 - alpha 3p4t
R12 + R61 = 470r

I omitted the LFO depth and VCO CV jacks.
for the LFO depth jack, I jumpered together points wires that would normally connect to the ring and tip of the switched jack

my wiring is not the prettiest, but i'm sure it's correct, and i've triple checked for solder bridges.

any thoughts on where I should begin?

Bumping for any advice.

I'll try and get some pics up in the next day or so

post up all your IC voltages.

Im not home right now but bump me a pm next week and i can try to cross reference them.

Thanks Lace,

Will do.

Revisiting this  - I have spend the last few days re-doing my wiring, and triple checking component values...

I've fired it up and im still only getting octave fuzz, with no modulation.

as per the build doc, I've tried to tune the VCO but connecting the VCO out jack to my amp, and discovered i'm not getting any VCO signal. Anyone able to open up their build and post voltages from Q3/4/5, and IC2?

I'm going get some voltages to compare against a working build, hopefully this afternoon when my kid is napping  ;)

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks man!

Here's my voltages (I've listed yours first, and mine second).
with my higher supply voltage, everything looks OK,

Except Q3. I'll have look and see if anything around there is odd.

B - 4.4 5.08
E - 4.5 4.49

if there's any chance you could also give me voltages from IC1, and T1,2, that would be greatly appreciated...

2am here

ill try to do it tomorrow
Have you checked the orientation of your vatrol and all other LEDs?

the3secondrule

seems to be working fine now, so don't worry about the voltages.

Frustratingly, i'm not sure what I did though. re flowed a few suspect looking joints, and replaced a couple of resistor, where I couldn't quite differentiate the colour bands to confirm values.

just to confirm though, the Square setting on the VCO rotary is significantly Quieter than the other settings. or, to put it another way, with the blend full up, and volume full down, the Saw, Triangle, and Sine settings are crushingly loud. far, far louder than unity... is this normal behaviour?

There is some volume difference between waveforms for me, but not on an order of magnitude different. I'd say check the resistors around T2 -- that's the 'rect' section of the waveshaper (R21,R22,R24,R25).

Hi

I cant remember off the top of my head which waveforms are meant to be quieter but yeah it is the case that they vary a bit.
It makes sense that square wave appears quieter though as you are losing most of the signal between the abrupt on / offs of the wave.

In any case glad you got it working and that I selfishly I dont have to get more voltages haah

the3secondrule

Hmmm, yeah. I understand that there should be a bit of a volume difference between settings. I guess I just wanted confirmation that with the blend all the way up, the saw/tri/sine are extremely loud even with the volume at min.

If this is standard behaviour then I'm happy...

the output of the pedal is HIGH
in my experience...
