This was added to the build document for the Harbinger One.

04.19 Revision: Some reports of problems with excessive voltage drop using R54. If using the filter PCB, you should jumper this resistor, or replace it with a 1N5817. If replacing it with a 1N5817, omit D1. The 1N5817 should be oriented with the anode on the left and cathode (banded side) on the right.

My god, I hate it.

My OSH Park prototyping total for 2012: $1234.35

At least I cut down a little from 2011!

Global Annoucements / Website downtime
April 05, 2013, 01:45:16 PM
We'll have probably a few hours of downtime coming...most likely on Sunday. The site/forum will be moved to the new host during this period. I don't have an exact time/duration but it will most likely happen Sunday at some point.

There have been a few short periods of slow performance/loading/downtime issues over the past few months which will no longer be the case after the move.

This was added to the ABDX build doc in light of this thread: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=9187.0

04.05 Update: R58 was added for a bit of extra PS filtering with C37 and C43, however, has caused some problems with heat/burned resistor with builders. The value and/or wattage on this resistor should have been made higher to prevent this and was a poor choice on my part. It is recommended that you leave off R58 and put a jumper in its place. Alternatively, you can put in a 1W 1N5817 diode for polarity protection (you can leave off D1 in that case, if you like).

R58 was something I saw as "missing" as I was finalizing the design on the PCB, and I added it without thinking it all the way through. It won't damage any other components AFAIK...just fry your resistor. Higher value/wattage resistor will prevent this, but really it's not necessary to have. Sorry about the mistake!

What else can I say? I've been wanting a simple small looper like this for a long long time.

Global Annoucements / April Sale - Project Sunsets
March 20, 2013, 03:53:27 PM
Starting on April 1, and coinciding with the release of the next batch of boards, the MBP store will have a sale. There are a few projects which I am planning on discontinuing and I will be doing some really nice discounts for the remaining stock. I'm discontinuing these in favor of opening space to replace them with newer projects.

As most of you know, I'm at a point where I have more projects planned and/or ready to go than I can afford to manufacture AND maintain the current stock of PCBs. The upper threshold for this is about 50 projects, which we are getting very close to now. So, to make room for what I have planned, like the EHX stuff, some new overdrives, a bunch of the hold overs from last year and the sub-mini stuff I'm working on I think it's a good idea to draw down on some of the older projects. This will help keep moving MBP forward with new and exciting releases while taking off some of the financial pressure.

I'm announcing this now so it is not a surprise (like you place an order on 3.31 only to see something go on sale on 4.1)!

On April 1, these projects will go on sale and will be discontinued once the stock is depleted:
Snarkdoodle, Lavache, EgoDriver, Pepperspray, Thunderpuss

I don't have the prices yet--you'll just have to wait and see :)

Global Annoucements / March release schedule
March 15, 2013, 07:09:24 PM
Here's the list of stuff that I am having made. I am placing this order probably tomorrow, so the boards will arrive right at the end of the month.

Re-stock:
Cupcake, Green Bean, Nautilus, Retrograde, Wolfshirt, ZPSDX

New/Revised
Stage Fright, Harbinger One, Sparkplug Rev.1, FatPants2013

I am really happy to be done with the Stage Fright and Harbinger. Both of these went through a LOT of prototyping and revisions.

--------------------------------------

The Dirtbag 2013 is moving to April. Also, I will be doing a small revision on the Weener Wah for April. I don't know anything else beyond that at this point in terms of other projects.

Global Annoucements / Down time
March 13, 2013, 01:06:20 AM
The entire website went down due to an issue with the hosting. The site is now temporarily on a VPS plan, but I will most likely switch hosting companies here in a couple of days. This may result in a further spat of downtime, but probably not more than a few hours at most. I'll post more when I have something definite. I will be upgrading the service so that this will not happen again.

Based on what I've seen happening with Domestic and International shipments over the last few weeks (after the new rates went into effect) I've made the following adjustments to shipping costs. The shipping rates are also now based on the total order amount, rather than the number of PCBs ordered.

----------------------------------------------------

U.S.A. Rates (1st Class)
Order Amount    Shipping
$0.01 - 49.99    $2.00
$50 - 99.99    $2.50
$ 100 or more    $3.00
Domestic orders of $ 100 or more will be upgraded to Priority at no additional cost.

International Rates
Order Amount    Shipping
$0.01 - 49.99    $3.00 ("Flats")
$50 - 99.99    $8.00 (1st Class)
$ 100 or more    $24 (Priority)
Priority shipping is required for Int'l orders of $100 or more. Transit time is 6-10 business days and tracking is included. Flats and 1st Class generally take 2-3 weeks and does not include tracking.

----------------------------------------------------

Most international customers do not order $100 or more (well over 90% of these orders are under $100) so I think this will have a very small effect. You can always break a larger order into two smaller ones to have them shipped separately under the Flats or 1st Class rates. Just remember that Priority is the ONLY option that provides tracking for International orders. I think this is a necessary step for the very large orders I get from time to time...it's just not worth leaving $100 worth of product to the mercy of Customs all over the world.

Aquaboy DX, Bloviator II, Cave Dweller, Afterlife, Runt, EgoDriver, Egghead, Hipster and Slow Loris in stock!

I have 150 each of the new Bloviator and Aquaboy boards so they should remain in stock for a while.

Added: Small price reductions on a few baby boards ($1 or so).

To Do: The Hipster and Egghead are slightly revised from their previous versions and the docs will be updated along with adding the BloviatorII and AquaboyDX docs ASAP.

Please be sure to refresh the Projects page when you load it to ensure all images/info is updated.

Global Annoucements / 02.22 - New Swag in teh Store
February 22, 2013, 08:57:19 PM
Since the MBP sitcker has been out of stock for a bit I've added a small new piece of swag: the MBP Pick of Killer Riffage. Known to cause finger melting and female swooning. Use with caution.

The pick is .96mm thick and made of celluloid material. Screening is pretty good, although I have not put it through sweaty palms yet to see if it will rub off. But, it's a mere $.75 so what more can I do?

A manufacturing error has been found on the Zp Micro PCBs that will effect SOME of the PCBs sent out. A small trace between pins 7 and 8 on the bottom side of the PCB has been discovered an most definitely does not belong there. This error will cause the modulation to not work properly.

After a visual inspection of the remaining PCBs on hand, I estimate that as many of 20% of the PCBs have this error so if you have one you need to check your board for the trace.

Fortunately, the fix is pretty straight-forward. Use an Xacto knife or sharp razor to cut the trace off the PCB. This will remove the connection. Please see the pic below. While there is no underlying ground plane between the pads to be damaged, please use care to limit the cutting to just this area.

My apologies for the inconvenience. I will definitely bring this to the manufacturer's attention.

Open Discussion / MV64 is here
February 14, 2013, 04:07:25 PM
Got my PedalSync MV64 development board yesterday. Hopefully this will mean some tap tempo goodness very soon. I'll be testing it out on a variety of BBD delays and reporting back. I hope to be able to suggest easy integration into the existing MBP analog delays.

Global Annoucements / Zero Point SDX Build Guide online
February 08, 2013, 02:01:33 PM
Part One of the build guide has been uploaded. Part Two will come along within a day or two.

The build guide is linked from the "Builds" page, but here is a direct link: http://www.madbeanpedals.com/builds/reports/zpsdx/index.html

In my haste to add every mod possible to these delays I added one twice without realizing it!

On the SDX - omit R45 the 1M resistor
On the DD - omit R30 the 1M resistor

This will increase delay times. You can still use the parallel resistors mentioned in the doc if you want to artificially reduce delay time but the two resistors above are superfluous.

Lastly, you can reduce R3 (in both builds) to 470k to reduce the dry volume path.
