Thanks, guys. :)

I won't really jump into the 1590A pedal board space debate, because everyone's pedalboard needs are different. The only 1590A I'm even using on my main board at the moment is an Orange Squeezer. :) (or is it:  :-[ or possibly  :'( ?)

I do it mainly for the challenge and because I think the mini boxes fit the "cute" I strive for in the art. The other reason I do it is because of the oulipo ... restrictions breed creativity out of necessity. Looking for ways to fit a circuit into a 1590A led me to use DIYLC, which forced me to actually learn the circuit, and while I'm making the layout, I also get to basically solve a puzzle (I liked doing puzzles when I was young). If a circuit has too many controls, I'm forced to find a way to move them inside or evaulate their usefulness and eliminate extraneous controls (like turning the screwdriver back into a 3-knob job). I can't add mods and external controls ad infinitum and get lost in setting the controls when it's finally boxed up -- so I better make sure it does what I want it to well with only a couple controls.

Also, I guess building in them is just my "thing," like being the tea guy at work. :)

I think 1590 projects are great fun. They force you to think ahead and be as neat and organized as possible. After building a few 1590's I noticed a huge improvement in my builds. My last couple pedals have been 1590B size but they are the cleanest I've done by far. I recommend 1590A builds to anyone looking to improve their skills...

Looks awesome my fellow Oregonian! I love the graphic design too. Is that a laser waterslide decal? I've never tried to add color to mine but the red came out great. I'd love to heat it...

Don't i feel silly....there's the four diodes up top there in plain view  :D

Yep it's the burst version. I think its a very smooth sounding OD and not as "bright" as the name suggests. I know the black version is supposed to be dark in comparison but the burst is pretty dark compared to my other OD's (OCD, TS-808). I do kind of wish I socketed parts so I could try the black version as well though. Oh well I'll just have to put that on my list of future projects. 8 )

That looks pretty good to me.  Really tidy wiring, which I always admire.

I'm not sure if I'd have noticed the decal shrinking if you hadn't pointed it out.  Anyway, good job and I'm glad you liked the pcb.

Thanks! I'll have to look and see what other PCB's you've got for sale. I've made my own a couple times but they are not nearly as nice as the ones you are making. Where do you buy your copper clad boards from anyway?

Build Reports / Lovepedal Eternity Build (Arcadia)
October 07, 2012, 11:06:22 PM
Here is my latest build using a etched PCB made by Haberdasher. PCB was perfect and pedal sounds great. I guess it is, as people say, a stripped down Tube Screamer, but IMO it is much smoother and eliminates all the negatives associated with a stock screamer. I had a small issue with the decal shrinking on the bottom right corner but otherwise build came together very nicely. At this point I am tired of all the negatives that come along with waterslide decals and think I will transition to etched enclosures. Check it out and let me know what you think...

I like it !
Isn't too trebly without
the 0.01uF cap connect to input to ground ?
Mich P.

Thanks! Not too trebly at all. It sounds like a germanium fuzz should IMO...

Really nice build !

These are tantalum caps right ?

Thanks! They are tantalum caps. I didn't have any audio grade electrolytics so I went with these. It sounds great!

Mammoth Industrial 3PDT?  I love those for tight spaces....

yep it's a mammoth industrial! Definitely great for tight spaces.

Build Reports / Fuzz Face build
September 15, 2012, 05:33:02 PM
Here is a Fuzz Face I built using positive ground circuit and US PNP germanium transistors. I etched this board myself using pcb design found on Tonepad website. The pedal sounds as expected but is not as loud as my other pedals. I'm pretty sure that is normal for this pedal though. I am very pleased with the graphics on this one. The waterslide decal transferred perfect and there are no blemishes! Check it out...

Build Reports / Smoothie (Phase 45 babyboard)
September 15, 2012, 05:08:27 PM
Hi everyone, here is a smoothie I recently built using the madbean smoothie babyboard. I love this pedal! It is perfet if you are looking for a subtle, smooth phase shift ala lynyrd skynrd. If you want to sound like EHV forget about! Otherwise you should love this pedal. I would not recommend the Bourne tripmpot for this build (or any babyboard build) as they are a little too big to fit into the space. I am also a big fan of the HBO miniseries Eastbound and Down so this pedal is my homage to the show and my man Kenny Powers. Check it out...

Where did you get the led bezels for this? I have an ego driver that I made to look like the real thing and the only thing missing is that translucent led bezel/cover...

Here is a Tonebender Professional MKII that I built using a Tonepad PCB (I wish Madbean made the 2 knob version of the Tonebender). I used NOS U.S. germanium PNP transistors from Smallbear and they sound great! I like the way the MKII looks so I based my graphic design on the original. Check it out and let me know what you think...

Great looking build -- love the graphics!

What's the value of the resistor right below the empty Ca space?  It's supposed to be 1K, but it looks Brown-Brown-Brown-Gold to me, which would be 110R.  Not a value I'm used to seeing (might just be the light or my old eyes), but if I'm right that would be squashing your output volume.

Your 51K in the first negative feedback loop looks fishy, too, but the red multiplier band means it should be close enough.  Unless I'm reading it backwards.  Good luck!

I just checked and its actually red red red gold which makes it a 2.2K. I initially had a 1K in there and read on a forum that a 2.2K could make it louder. It honestly sounds the same as before to me. I like the pedal it just doesn't have the juice to be used as a lead pedal without turning volume up to 11.

Hey everyone, here is a tonepad tube screamer TS-808 I built. It is not as loud as I expected and much quieter than my other builds. I already replaced the suggested transistors with MPSA 18's but it is still quiet. Any help is much appreciated. Also check out the Sin City graphics I used on the pedal...
