Tech Help - Projects Page / Zero Point Mini Help
May 12, 2014, 11:30:43 PM
Hi guys,
I just finished a Zero Point Mini and it won't fire up. So I built myself a audio probe and found I am losing signal at R16. Which connects to (pin14) LPF2 out of the Pt2339 via C17(1n5 cap). I have a few Pt2339 I've tried with no results. My voltages are
Pt2339                                    TL072 1 7.9   5 8.5       TL062 1 0.0   5 8.50                   Regulator 1 9.05
1 5.06 9 thru 16 are all 2.45             2 7.85   6 7.9                2 4.0   6 4.19 -4.22 - 4.27                2 0.0
2 2.45                                               3 0.0     7 6.44             3 8.5   7 4.26                                    3 5.05
3 .0.0                                                4 0.0     8 0                  4 0      8 3.93
4 .06
5 2.64
6 2.45

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was actually going to try the vibrato mode mod today! Is there anything more to it than removing R40? Sorry for the noob question.

Alright thanks Jon.
I did everything you said. I used a Dip for the ic, so it was easy.
I still have no sound. All of my other electros and diodes are still the same orientation as a NPN build. Do I need to reverse them like I did C2?

Update: I got It working! Thanks again!

Thanks Jon!
It's the new 2014 version.
That's whats confusing me about it.

General Questions / another Mangler 2014 question
April 16, 2014, 06:54:07 PM
Hello,
I have a quick question. I populated and wired up my Mangler. And I noticed I have npn 2n299's. I have the new version with the road rage in the circuit. Do I wire this up the same way as the original Mangler? And do I still flip all of the electro's and diodes in reverse?
I just wanted to make sure so I don't fry nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :)

Thanks for reply. I'll get my hands on a 10pf soon. I just noticed my 2n299's are NPN. Do I have to switch around the electro's and some other things? I noticed it when I was going to bias the 2n299's.

thanks for all help

Thanks Jon!
I'll omit it and take it from there. I am using germanium. I got some Slyvania 2n299's from Small Bear.
Thanks again for your help!

General Questions / Mangler 2014 Question
April 14, 2014, 08:57:36 PM

I have a Mangler 2014 board, I'm going to start on today. I was wondering if I can sub a 20pf for the 10pf? I think it's for the charge pump section of the board.
If anyone can help, it would much appreciated.
thanks

This is alittle off subject but last night I finished my Mudbunny GreenRussian. And I plugged it in and it had the weirdest fizzy distortion I've heard. It turns out I soldered my spare Lm78L05 Power regulator in place of the 2n5088 transistor. I love it when it's something simple like that.

I was lucky and it was just a bad DC jack. So you could try replacing it. But try a different 9v adaptor if you have one first. If you can, test the voltage of the Jack with the adaptor plugged in. You should be get around 9v I think. Hope this helps.
I'm still learning myself.

Jacob gives instructions for taking voltages in the tech help rules thread. :)

I got it working! I read Jacob's post on troubleshooting and noticed I was getting no voltage reading at the DC Jack.So I replaced it and It works! ;D
Thanks again for the help!

'Clock noise' is a high pitched whine. It doesn't go tick-tick-tick. THAT sound is usually a power supply short.
You were dead on. The tick noise is gone now that I changed the supply. But now I get no sound

I haven't double checked your values, but have you?

Also, if you could take voltages, that might help.

No I'll double check them now. I've never done voltage readings with my multimeter yet. I'm not quite sure how. I did try to check and all got was a fluxiuanting number. This also happened when I tried to check the voltage on the dc jack. I couldn't get it read 9, it just moved between 3 different readings. Maybe I dont have the right settign on my multimeter. I'm not sure.

Hey guys,
I've got another build to debug, it was a bad week.
I built a zero point dd delay, and when I fired it up all I got was a clock noise, tick sound.
I was wondering if anyone knows what might cause this?
This is my first Delay pedal and I have no idea where to start debugging.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I got it going last night! Thank you everyone for the help! I really appreciate it.I just started building in May and have alot to learn. The traces from Lugs1 and 3 of the Comp switch going to the diodes were dead. So I soldered jumper wires from Lugs1 and 3 to the diode pads and it worked!  :D
i just need to clean it up a bit and try to get it in the box.
Thanks again everyone for the help.
Now on to debugging my Zero Point DD that just makes clock noise ;D

thanks!
I have pcb mounted pots going and in hard to really see whats going on under them.
Should I remove them, and wire them off the board? So I can get a better look?
I appreciate the help.
thanks again
