Hello again all - just wanted to loop back to report that I've been successful in getting this bad boy going.

It sat for nearly a year, then over the past week I tried swapping out my CDXXXX chips without success, then I built a better audio probe and noticed when biasing the second MN3005 in the calibration procedure that there was next to no output.  I replaced the second MN3005 (Xvive) with a new MN3005 (also Xvive) and I was in business.

I still feel that my voltages are a bit off based on others' builds, and I'll keep tweaking away, but as is now it's working and calibrated and sounds great.  Really great slapback sounds and nice medium length delay.  As the delay time gets longer, it gets quite dark (as expected) and it loves to self-oscillate! 

Anywho, just wanted to report back and especially thank Scruffie for his help on this one.

I'll put this one in the 'refine' pile, and now get started on the DC-Echo.... Cheers

New 4016's on order, will report back.  Didn't want to be a dirty hit and runner - thanks for the help thus far, Scruff

I can't offer any troubleshooting advice (my knowledge is not that advanced) but I did successfully build three of these simultaneously (kept one and gave two away to friends) - amazing delay that sounds just like my DMM.

If I can support at all by cracking mine open to provide pics or readings, let me know. Will subscribe to thread.

Swapped IC10 and IC11 and indeed the signal loss did move to IC3.

I don't have any spare 4016's available, but can get my hands on a couple of 4066's.  I'll try one/both of those for troubleshooting and then report back...

Hooking a frequency generator to the input, and probing the various spots you listed, all is good and strong until IC2 pin 1 - there is a slight decrease in amplitude, and then a further decrease at pin 7, and again a further decrease at TP5.  I don't ever lose signal entirely, it just gets progressively weaker across those three points.  This was with all controls on the pedal at maximum.

It looks to me as though maybe the IC6 readings are a bit muddy/dirty?  Clock looks good, though, I reckon...

Oh thank you for the link, Scruffie - I did try to search but came up empty (even more broadly on the Googles for other builders).  Maybe it's "Chamber" vs "Chambre" ...

I have access to a meter, scope, probe, etc.  I will read up on that thread, and get to some more tinkering this evening. I'll surely report back.

Any chance anyone here has tackled this one and wouldn't mind posting voltages?  I did try swapping some chips and a thorough visual inspection; can't seem to source the issue though I do not have a spare 4069 on hand.

Hello folks,

Just got done a Star Chamber project to the point of calibration and have hit a few snags.  The wet signal seems much lower than the dry, and I'm not getting any effect (delay) whatsoever.  Hoping some of the geniuses on here can help me out... Voltages below to start - thanks in advance!

Nice catch, Zerro - I did, in fact, have a loose ground.  I should mention that the effect passes bypassed signal, as well as wet signal though there is no noticeable effect (it has the volume drop but sounds dry/clean).  The clock, though, is audible - ticking away in the background and responding to the "Rate" pot.  I am still suspicious of the 4558; these updated voltages, with the ground problem resolved, may show why:

EDIT
Got less lazy and checked the voltages at the 2N4354.  Power comes into the Emitter at 18.4V, but leaves the Collector at the same 18.4V, with a modestly different 17.76V at the Base.  It seems the 2N4354 isn't doing its job...

This looks to me as though it has had the power section upgrade/fix already completed, and likely long ago.  The effect does not pass any signal, and I have admittedly not gotten too far deep into it.  For as long as I have owned it, it has not worked.  I suspect the power section may have been damaged, given the following voltages, just to kick things off:

The pedal is being powered via a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 (18v positive tip).

Now, I'm far from an expert, but that's a lot of "16V" going on.  Am I right to think that step 1 is to change out the LM741, or might it be OK and I should move straight to replacing the 4558?  As always, much appreciation for the community support.

Just for the archives, in case anyone searches the interwebs with a similar issue:

1. JP3 needed a fresh solder joint;
2. Both the "Delay" and "Blend" pots needed replacing - in both cases, as soon as any part of the pot shaft/casing touched the box, the whole wet signal grounded out;
3. Ground wire from the "Delay" pot casing was relocated, connecting to a jack's ground rather than the body of the pot;
4. Calibration was challenging (with a signal generator and a scope) but ended up getting it rocking again...

Pedal sounds amazing, great one to have in the big box EH collection.  Speaking of, I've spent some time over the holidays showing my EchoFlanger and PolyFlange some love:

- Replace all IC sockets and IC's (except the SAD-1024's, of course)
- Replace power regulators
- Replace filter caps
- Calibration/Alignment both with scope and by ear
- Sound great
