cool layout, looks like a lot of room which is good, and easy to do a tidy build with, which you have done a superb job of

General Questions / 1n5238 replacement
September 07, 2011, 01:28:21 PM
building a couple of pedals for my band, basically a hotcake and prunes n' custard in one box, and I can't find any replacements for 1n5238 Zener Diodes, which I need one of for each hotcake circuit.
It's a 8.7V o.5W Zener, would it be okay using the 8.2V Zener on Tayda, or would the extra 1/2W of power change the circuit too much?
http://www.taydaelectronics.com/servlet/the-183/1N-1N4738-1W-4738/Detail

Cheers

EDIT:
Okay nevermind just found some on Ebay for super cheap, now I have 50 of them :D
Out of curiosity would the Tayda one's have been alright?

hehe the old orangeboard. Got so many "why are your pedals orange?" at gigs

Still have a lot of orange pedals but these days my board is peppered with a lot of multi-coloured stuff too. And a lot of it is too hard to repaint, plus it loses a bit of resale painted orange. One day when I'm mega-rich I'll get everything copper-plated or white just like Jack White haha.

Nice build

yeah it's called like a fulltone bassdrive or something which I think is what the one I'm building is, though I'm not sure I need to compare the values with the Deadringer BOM to see the difference.

I mixed and matched for mine had 3 reasonably high gain 2n5089s and one lower gain 2n5088 in the Q3 (or might have been Q4) position

I think the version I'm building IS the bass version although in terms of controls and features they are identical, I think there are just a few value changes in the circuit, haven't actually checked my schem with the deadringer one but there's bound to be a difference or two

meh, just plays on original name, I like stuff like that, hence why my Big Muff is the "Mufferfucker"

nice.
Lol am building one for my bassist in a 1790NS, a bit overkill as it can easily fit in smaller, but I just like the look of big double stomp pedals.
Man I have about 3 build reports I need to do, need to get around to taking photos

I also would like to know I always found shielded wire confusing like when I had to use it in my plexi amp build that was the only thing i got my tech to do cause I couldn't find a single simple explanation of what to do with it in the amp

nah that is the coolest looking pedal ever. The long wires "add to the tone by removing nasty unwanted high frequencies ... blah blah blah snake oil blah blah"

any chance you could send me the schem/layout you used? I'm looking to do a "hotcake/p&c in one box" build and can't seem to find a decent schem for this one anywhere.
Also is there any way to wire these pedals true bypass with 3PDTs? I have a feeling that the nature of the design of the circuits won't allow it, but I could be wrong.

Nice build
