I like the dark gray knobs.  Where did you get those?

The knobs came from lovemyswitches.com. They carry the Davies 1900 in all kinds of colors.
Thanks!  Somehow, I missed those during my recent browsing of that site.  I'll definitely grab some with my next order.  They remind me of JB Weld, which I love.

I love the demo too, by the way.  Beautiful build!

I love a large vero build.  Nice job!  What is the gray stuff on the trimmers though?

That is a stunning print.  And a nice build, of course.

Fot what it is worth, the two Clone Theories I have built on vero from the tagboardeffects layout, with a separate board for the charge pump, have been quiet.  Maybe I just got lucky?

The best mod for the Brassmaster is the volume knob.  I believe Brian's board has this already. Without it, the circuit is LOUD.  I experimented in my second build with limiting the sweep of the Brass Level control, but having a volume knob is better.  Other than that, my favorite trick with the Brassmaster is to throw an octave-down circuit in as the input.  The result made me grin nonstop.  I'll be revisiting that in the future.

I'm not sure how the series/parallel BMP combo idea would sound, but I like your thinking, and I can't wait to hear it.

Build Reports / Wolfshirt (Foxx Tone Machine)
December 08, 2022, 12:42:12 PM
Nothing fancy here aesthetically, but I am still quite happy with this build.  This is a Wolfshirt board that I received as part of a PIF, I believe (my memory is as fuzzy as the tones from this pedal).  I've been building somewhat randomly this year, and picked this board out of the pile and said, "why not?"  The octave it produces is quite clear when you find the sweet spot on the fretboard. It is also a nice fuzz. Fun build and fun tone.

I've been eyeing the L5 stuff too.
Me too.  Been casually pondering building a small combo amp with the L5 clean channel board as the preamp.

Global Annoucements / Re: Should we do a BOTY contest?

I love the BOTY contest!
It is a great excuse to celebrate as a community.

Interesting.  Glad you got it sorted out.

A guess: Check to see if your switch is shorting the two tone control subcurcuits (EQ and HI-LO) together (perhaps due to a solder blob hidden by the board.

In the build doc for the 3PDT-05 bypass board, there is a mock layout drill guide.  However, it should use the image of the top of the 3PDT-05 board rather than the bottom so the LED is in the correct side for drill planning purposes.

That's so cool. How does it sound?
Thanks!  It sounds bright, but not harsh.  Surprisingly low on hiss.

Build Reports / Rangemaster with MBP 3PDT-05
November 20, 2022, 11:09:29 PM
This is the first Rangemaster I have built, and I love it!

The transistor is a Russian МП20 with a gain of 72. The Madbean 3PDT-05 bypass board supplies -9V, so this will play nicely with other pedals.

The knob is polymer clay over a brass insert from LoveMySwitches.

Tube amps also tend to compress the input, which is another reason they don't simply get louder with stronger signal.

Tube amps may also be more sensitive to input impedance variation.

Not all solid state amps are equal, of course.  Some can be pleasantly overdriven, but I wouldn't specifically shop for such a feature when buying solid state.  The best solid state amps (in my opinion) are beautifully clean, with plenty of headroom.

I just use stripboard to make my own.
