Cool! Glad you got it worked out. I spent quite a long time on an analog delay myself so I know what you went through. It's usually the simplest mistakes that take the longest to catch.

Do you have a scope? If not, I can send you some info on how to calibrate the delay using a signal generator on your phone and a free scope program on your computer. At the very least, I'd use an audio probe to set the cancel trimmer, then listening to the full output adjust the delay time so that the whine just barely starts and then back off a tad to eliminate it.

With the way the mix pot is set up you should be able to completely kill the wet signal. I'd check the pot to make sure that pin 1 is at ground, and that pin 2 goes to ground at full CCW.

I thought you could still get all the standard strat tones as long as you dont use the bass cut?  seems like a pretty typical low pass filter on the 250k part. 

Anyone have any ideas on this?  Its hard to find the 1mC pot that the G&L PTB calls for... all I can find are the alphas i have stashed for pedal builds.  Maybe I'll just use one of those for the bass cut and one of the CTS mini pots for the treble cut- and do a 4 knob strat.

ahiddentableau was talking about the TBX, not PTB. I have been wanting to try the PTB system myself and couldn't find the pot except directly through G&L. I think I will buy from them but the price is pretty high.

My vote is for Joe Gagan's pot or the Mccon-o-pot. I prefer the taper of Joe's pot but the smoothness of the sealed Mccon-o-pot.

There's no real con to having a clean blend....it's simply an "additive" option that can be completely removed by turning the knob down. I guess I'd describe the "pro" as being able to create a more unique compression mix than you would have without a clean through. You can get a lot of compression pumping through without it feeling overdone (as is the case with many one knob compressors)...IOW added sustain without overly-compressed dynamics.

Thanks for the help Brian. I wasn't sure if/how the added circuitry would change the feel if the clean was dialed completely out. I'm leaning towards the 4:1.

I'm interested in building one of these two compressors but am undecided on which one. Can any of you offer some insight on the pros and cons of the clean blend option of the 4:1? Thanks!

Through-hole NE570s are no longer in production, so the SMD version is far easier to procure, and I need to keep sharpening my SMD skills to be ready for the future.  I don't actually have a solid reasoning other  than that (a Coolaudio v571d would have worked instead). No cost savings here, as the adapter board cost as much as the chip.

Looking good! I dig that layout a lot. Any reason for an smd NE570 other than that it's probably what you already had?

Also, what vactrol is that? It's the same one that's used in the new micro-tron. I've been curious what it was but could never find it anywhere.

Aesthetically speaking, my vote is for the weener. Man, that is something I never thought I'd say.
