Build Reports / Tone Virus
August 31, 2021, 03:27:27 PM
It's been too long since I showed off a pedal build, and honestly, the best part isn't even by me! This is Madbean's Tone Virus board which might be my wife's least favorite pedal to hear me play out of. So many weirdo sounds coming out of this. It's a simple and satisfying build, and it's even easier when the stellar enclosure is done by Bio77. Fantastic work, John! We went for a design scheme similar to the Sagan Delay. What took so long for me to post it? I never got a round to buying knobs for it...until now!

I agree with the advice above. Figure out what you want on paper. Draw a simple block diagram of the effects you want to use and figure out what effects you want to switch around. After that, look up order switching schematics and whatnot. When I plan things like this out, I use markers or colored pencils on signal lines to help me not get lost.

Sweet build! Compressors are a dark art, and your enclosure definitely falls into that territory!

Calm down, Chuck!

I heard the JHS Angry Charlie was based off the Crunchwrap Supreme.

Good on you for etching. It never appealed to me because of all those holes to drill, but you make it look great!

That is quite elegant. I could see that style adorn tons of hip pedal boards.

Great job!

Clean as usual! And Storm ain't Storm without her Dave Cockrum head dress.

That's a nice and tight board! Those are some great pedals for a grab and go gig, especially with that Paladin pedal at the end. It really saves wear and tear on the back.

I'm trying (really, I am!) to clean up some of my PCB stash, but that JC120 board is awfully intriguing...

That sounds great. It's awesome that we got to hear the thought process about this too.

Gorgeous guitar. I've always favored this look with some f-holes, but it would be a shame to carve out any more of that beautiful top.

I was also just made aware that somebody in the Czech Republic makes PCBs of the Sagan 1.0. PCBGuitarmania I believe, and a kit is available on musikding. There's even an (empty) subforum on FSB for the site.

The Clusterflux was a neat concept. Aside from all the digital LFO stuff, you get a flanger sound with one BBD, and for chorus, another BBD is placed in series to displace the delay just a smidge more. Pretty great stuff.

Very cool. And with that enclosure design, if you were ever to sell them, the buyer would have to buy both of course!

Carcharias Effects makes some Sagan 2.0 PCBs from time to time too. He is based out of Israel though, so there is no telling what postal services are like at the moment...

That's a whole lot of circuit in that enclosure. The more knobs, the better, I always say. Are those knobs plastic or metal? I like the simple cylindrical shape of them.

Somehow, I expected...more?
