General Questions / Re: Mangler Powering Question
December 11, 2011, 04:08:56 PM
thanks for the info fellas. I will probably just build the PNP version and add the road rage in there as well to use negative-ground power.

What are the best small-bear PNP trannies to use for the mangler? There is a set for $11 he sells. Are these ok to use or should I drop more coin on others?

General Questions / Mangler Powering Question
December 11, 2011, 12:17:04 AM
Hello,

I am going to build the Mangler soon and would like to power it with a standard 9V (boss style).

If I used NPN transistors instead of the standard PNP would I still need to use a Road Rage in there as well? If so I will just order the standard PNPs.

Not very familiar with positive ground effects and fuzz faces (obviously)  ;D

Awesome thread. I have picked up some great stuff from this. Here is a band that does the 70's rock thing and is also does great Zep covers. They have an all original album that just came out as well:

Awesome. Thanks for all the replies. I will keep my eyes peeled for phaser options around here in the near future  8)

Open Discussion / Phase 45/90 project

Just curious if there is a MB phaser project (current or old) that has been done. I have done some searches but did not come up with anything. I like the phase 45 sound. There is a GGG phase 45 build I found if nothing is avail here at MB.

Any suggestions?

General Questions / Re: Which Mudbunny?
November 30, 2011, 01:30:44 AM
I hear ya about all the different variations  ???. I guess i would like an "all around general" muff build if that existed. I do like the Smashing Pumpkins and Jack White type of muff sounds though.

I also ordered the Wolfshirt circuit which i will build first as I learn up on all that is muff  ;D

General Questions / Which Mudbunny?
November 27, 2011, 03:05:18 PM
Hello,

I am looking to build a Muff using the mid control option and am wanting a Jack White-ish type sound out of the pedal. There are different build options listed for the mudbunny and am not sure which BOM to order ( i.e. rams head, russian, etc...)

Thanks for any advice!

Open Discussion / Envelope/Filter for Bass
November 26, 2011, 11:34:54 PM
I was just wondering if any of the MB filter/envelopes work well with a bass guitar. My brother-in-law commented that he would like a good E/V that works with a bass.

He currently uses a q-tron ??? but it is made more for guitars I think. I really don't know much about filters or bass effects for tha matter but would like to build him something cool as a gift.

Thanks for any advice,

Circuit is working  ;D

I went ahead and soldered in the other pots (volume and tone) and hooked it up to the test rig and YES! Apparently all pots an switches must need to be hooked up for the circuit to test correctly?

It sounds great, especially the LED clipping. I played it for about an hour with the test rig. Now time to get it boxed up. I will post some pics o my first MB build soon.

Thank you very much oldhousescott for your help and patience with teaching a newb

OK. I soldered in the gain pot.
IC voltages are:

1-4.35    8-8.70
2-3.95    7-4.36
3-2.94    6-4.34
4-0.00    5-4.26

Voltage at R15 is 4.33

Does this all seam right? I am getting output now but there is a lot of squealing and cutting in/out but I do hear some overdrive otherwise. This could just be because nothing is mounted up/wired yet, not sure?

Am I good to go ???

thanks for the reply oldhouse but I am still learning the ropes with all this. Where is the junction between R14-R15 located on the circuit board? Also, should I just solder in the gain pot to make sure the circuit is fully connected? is this why am having all the issues?

Another tidbit. When I switch on the clipping LEDs only one of them lights up. Any insight from this?

I really appreciate everyone's help here  ;)

Tech Help - Projects Page / Egodriver Help Please
November 18, 2011, 03:24:33 AM
Hello Everyone,

This is my first madbean build and need some debugging help on the egodriver circuit board.

I made a testing rig with built-in audio proble, and I have a DMM. OK...

First, I have not yet soldered on the PCB mounted pots and am not sure if this even needs to be done to correctly test the circuit board ??? However, I did solder the HP/LP switch into the board.

I am getting an input signal but no output signal with the audio probe. My dcV measurements at the IC are:
1-8.0      8-8.7
2-7.2      7-8.0
3-2.9      6-7.0
4-0         5-7.6

I think these values are incorrect but am not sure what to do or where to start at this point. My solder joints look good with no suspect under a magnifying glass.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Thanks for the replys fellas

After posting I realized that the metal jack might short out as I am using an aluminum enclosure. I went ahead and ordered some correct, plastic DC jacks from PPP so I will just wait it out.

Tech Help - Projects Page / 9v dc adapter question
November 13, 2011, 10:52:32 PM
Hello all,

Excuse the newb question but I am building the PCB test rig as seen here:
http://www.madbeanpedals.com/forum/index.php?topic=1140.0

i don't have the the same 9v DC adapter on hand (the black round one with 3 solder points) but was wondering if a basic radio shack one would work as long as it is 2.1 mm inside diameter? I noticed that this one only has 2 solder points though:

Thanks for any advice
