Nice transistors! And you have the real 1N34A's!
I wanna do the layout for mine the same!! Except with velvet/felt.

I got the 1N34a's from smallbear not knowing I already had some.  Good thing too as I broke two bending the leads.  At least I ha some spares.

Those are the 2N3565's from Smallbear.  I haven't played around with others yet.  But I socketed them in so I could experiment.

me too. I really love wah and havent used mine lately because I hate the tone of it. I had a vox that sounded junky and now have a Dunlop 535q and do NOT dig it. It has a ton of options and knobs but I can never get it to sound right. Then if I get something useable, it changes when I pack up.

Cant wait for the Weener Winner!!!

I too am on a search for the "perfect wah".  GGG used to have a wah mod kit.  Now if you google it you can find the PCB and parts list.  Sounds like my solution is to replace some of the key resistors with trim pots to dial in the tone and add a rotary switch to select different caps to vary the sweep.  I'm hoping I'll FINALLY get a wah I'm happy with and with the internal controls, I won't have to worry about messing up the settings from packing up.

I use my Mouser catalog for home protection.  It packs a wollop!

The idea is to add that iconic image of Stalin and put a hammer/sickle/star where the LED is.  I need to experiment with water-slip decals first.  I will post the results.

Build Reports / Fabbed Wolfshirt Build

Here are the photos form my Wolfshirt build.  Thanks to the fabled boards, it fired right up on the frost try!  The germanium diodes were delicate and I broke two of them.  Fortunately, I had some sprares.  There is fuzz and volume a-plenty!  I think I'll call it "The Red Menace"...

Score!  In a rare blip on the ebay radar, I have just won a Bluebeard Fuzz.  Also, I have just finished a Wolfshirt and it's initial impressions are tremendous!  Once I receive my BBF, I hope to post a side-by-side comparison.

Cheers!

You should not be reading negative voltages. Something is obviously very wrong here. Not sure what, though.

Are your transistors socketed, by any chance? If using 2n3565, the flat side of the transistor should be the emitter. For example, from left to right, the flat side of Q1 should be on the left.

What is your reading on both sides of R9? One side should be about 9v, the other somewhat less.

I had the same problem when I first plugged in my wolfshirt.  Apparently I had them socketed in reverse.  I flipped them 180 degrees and BINGO!  The 2n3565s are a little confusing at first to sort out compared to most trannies.

This forum is awesome!  It has saved me so many debugging headaches!

Thanks to all!

If you're looking for a great bass fuzz, the Foxx Tone Machine (wolfshirt) is indeed great, ESPECIALLY if you add in a clean blend circuit.  The problem with most fuzzes is that they filter at least some frequencies that basses need to have definition.  The clean blend eliminates the frequency loss.

I have a Carl Martin Paraloop that I'm going to use as a fuzz loop.  That way I can mix in some clean as necessary.

Awesome clip!  How's the bottom end?  That doesn't usually translate well via youtube.  I was playing around with my Spector through a Faultline.  It was OK.  But felt like it was pushing it too hard with the active PUs.  Got a good fuzz.  But could be smoother for my taste.  I'm sure my Rickenbacker will do just fine.  But the Spector has an EMG MM in the bridge that shakes the walls.

How would the wolfshirt handle active basses?

I've seen and examined those pictures closely.  But one glaring difference hasn't been explained in any of the forums.  There is a big electrolytic and 2 resistors on the upper right corner of the BBF.  I've read comparisons of the BBF and the GGG and most say the BBF has more bottom end. Which leads me to somewhat of a noob question.  What components of a Muff would affect the bottom end?

I really like Brian's fabbed boards.  So, I'm inclined to go with a Mudbunny as my starting platform.

Thanks Kaleb for the Mudbunny suggestion!

I'm still in the dark as to what component affects what.  My ultimate goal is to find a good, doomy fuzz for a bass.  I've ordered a Wolfshirt to see how that works.  But the Mudbunny would be a good way I can experiment if the WS doesn't quite cut it.

I'd rather come up with something more "personalized" than put myself through the hassle of tracking down a bluebeard.

Cheers!

I just wanted to post a general topic regarding a comparison of any Madbean pedals with a Bluebeard Fuzz.

Has anyone had any hands-on time with a Blue beard or input of how it might compare to, let's say, a Wolfshirt?

The sound of a BBF has become something of a legend.  But acquiring one is very difficult.

Any thoughts?

Any chance that the Dig Dug boards will be fabbed?  I find the fabbed boards way easier to work with for soldering.

Thanks!
