I have a tweed one that I bought new in '95 or '96.  The only thing I've done to it was a re-tube from Euro Tubes.  I opted for a the more headroom option because it sounds so good with a nice booster pedal for a nice breakup or cascaded ones for smoother distortion.  I have researched all the Bill M mods but have resisted applying them.  It's a "if it ain't broke" scenario for me.  Though a will consider getting a new transformer from Mercury Magnetics at some point.  Good luck

Thanks for the info!  All the 70's LP's and SG's I have had the pleasure of playing have had that volute, I didn't realize the DC had a much different neck profile.  I used to play traditional ska, rocksteady, and reggae, that DC would be perfect for that stuff besides the obvious ablity to rock.  Thanks for posting it!

Yes!  P90's sound good for reggae - judging by Bob Marley's LP Special.

That DC is too cool!  I love the volute on those 70's necks too, nice feeling for playing open chords.

Thanks, I prefer that P90 sound to humbuckers.  But it doesn't have the volute that you see on SG's. The neck is wide and flat unlike any of my other guitars which are more "C" shaped.

My "go to" guitar.  1977 Les Paul Double Cut.  I have an old Melody Maker and newer Epi's but I find myself going back to this one.

You could throw three in a 1590BB for an easy grab and go jam, or whatever. But yeah, use em to whatever suits your needs best, I say!

That said, it's just me like that. MANY people love and use 1590A pedals, I just don't. 1590A's are really handy for things like tap tempo boxes, buffers, and splitters.

So I could, conceivably, use my favorite 125B and not be subject to public derision (or varying degrees of it) because I really don't need the real estate savings.  I only use a couple of effects at a time - I do better with fewer choices.

I have never attempted a 1590A build.  It frankly scares the bejesus out of me.  Live where you fear to live, right?  It might be fun.  The smoothie and the pork rind sound interesting.  And the tigerlilly of course.  I need some kind of thing that does something.

Hey.  I still have a number of my old pedals, but they have been replaced (for the most part) with home made ones, but I haven't sold any.  I still use my old Dyna Comp, but my Green Russian Big Muff languishes in a dusty corner.  I have a CE-2 as well and would love to build a better chorus (I always thought it was too subtle) but all the distortions, boosts, fuzzes and the like have been supplanted by better sounding DIY jobs.
